Not entirely true. There's a ton that can be done with optimizing. In my book, Optimizing is not only the deletion of downward and inward facing polygons. It's also when I go through the model and decide where objects can be removed or improved resulting in a lesser poly count. An Example of this? How Krit used a 6 sided main balloon instead of an 8 sided one. Also, things like he said about using 2 sided planes etc is very true. Using all of these methods before, I lost a little detail in the process, but have brought a model from 2300 polygons, to a final resting place of 846. It can be done.

ok if we are doing this could you not delete the bottom of the balloon soon as I don't think you will ever be able to see it due to the fact that you can not change the pitch of the camera in game.

Actually just looking at that picture could you not delete quite a few faces from the bottom of the kirov.

cdlord, we can but it's gonna be quite hard too. lol. Anyway, I would just remake/replace it with a new cylinder and try to get it to look the same using the old one as a guild line. I actually did that making my Kirov, I first started off with a 8 sided one and spent time trying to get the shape right, and then I put in a 6 sided cylinder with the same amount of hieght segments and, using the old one as a guild, made it the same shape on the side veiw.

Blb, you can have that model in All Stars if you want =)

Slick, did you meant:
1. To delete the faces under the Kirov as it's not needed
Or
2. Don't delete the faces under the Kirov as it might be seen sometimes (In this case, cut scenes)

I think he meant #1 as the only way we would see cutscenes is in missions, and before we think of that we should just focus on getting the mod done.
And yes you would be amazed at how much optimizing can do. Acc took the tank I made from 1402 polys to 202 in less than 10 seconds.

i dont think the bottom side of the kirov should be deleted, that would be strange if it where to fly higher then you thought.

You won't see the underside ever in-game. The only time you would see it is in CG cutscenes etc. For this case, we do exactly what the folks at EA did. You make cinematic units guys. We have a higher poly model of the kirov with all the bottom facing polys un-deleted, and set it as a cinematic unit. Makes sense. Saves time. And works well. That's considering we're even gunna have CG cutscenes.

well it won't look like too much work if we have mod finished. I think that once we finish it missions could be a good idea.

the ones who made those shellmaps might know, i know DFS made a shellmap and somebody else (forgot who) maybe they know how to make missions, doesn´t gamemastax know?

Yes I can make ShellMaps in other words maps with scripts, which is almost the same as a SP map.
