Hello everybody i have a legit copy of First Decade, i only play Zero Hour online. The first time i installed it, the game started, multiplayer loaded but old version, tried to leave auto update to work but didnt so tried manual and got the OldFile error on the patch.. game.dat was missing from zero hour directory. so uninstall, delete reg files etc.. reinstall, game.dat still missing
followed that procedure several times with different compatibility modes and UAC off, game.dat still missing..
i got hold of a backup of the install with 1.04 nocd working and Original .dat file
so i did a fresh install added the original .dat and added patch1.04, Patch Applied and confirmed but no patch.doc or launcher.txt was left.. ran game it said insert DVD-Rom
tried a few things and checked registry but still Insert DVD-rom
so applied nocd, game loaded but it was still original version, no patch.
i overwriten the full contents of zero hour folder with the back up v1.04, it worked but was still running V1(or what ever version zero hour is on TFD disk) and gave the wrong version error when trying to join a game.
i also got the serial error when overwriting game.dat but was able to fix by changing the code in registry by one digit then putting it back to my legit code.
ive also played with the options.ini file, restoring my old one and trying the advised settings but still didnt work.
ive been trying to fix for 3 days and have tried alsorts, could anybody please help me? i previously used zero hour on Vista Ultimate and it worked fine after messing with compatability. im now using Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit
so in brief, game.dat missing on installation, restored V1 game.dat and update patch applies and confirms, but doesnt seem to actually do anything.
i ran everything in compatibility mode.
Please Help,
Davies

Well, your game is already patched, so there's no point trying to patch it.
Aside from XP compatibility mode, there's not much else you can do. |

Referring to your CD comments, As far as I know the CD must be in the drive to play the game.

It's impossible. There is a bug that isn't recognising the patch, but it is patched. |

Thank you all for your comments, but this is now FIXED!!
i got a copy of the 4disk generals and zero hour and used my codes, it installed and patched successfully giving me the launcher.txt and patch.doc... BUT it was still saying insert CD so i had to use a mini disc and a virtual drive, it works fine and plays online.. although a little annoying that i have to mount a drive and image everytime i want to play.. does anybody know if i can play online with a NOCD patch? or will i have to keep mounting a drive? or does anybody know a fix to the Insert CD error..?(Disc is obviously in the drive!)

PS i also had to play around with the options.ini file, i used my old files with edits to the firewall settings.. and have to run in compatability mode.
