i'm making a mod for zero hour, the game crashes if i try to render with 3d shadows or any kind of texture resolution or heat effects shown. i have to put the graphics settings down very low in order to start the game, and it looks awful compared to how it ought to. my models i made, i tried to keep them very low poly count as the original models were, i tend to cap the number of triangles to less than 2,000 for most units.. usually far less like around 500. i started off with just the vanilla default game and modded on that.
i know that there is a 'large address aware' patch that seems like it would resolve the issue.. supposedly it changed the limit of how much RAM the game can use from 2GB to 4GB which seems like it would make the difference but, the game won't start if i use it, i get Steam error code 51, i believe.
i don't get it bc i've seen other mods that render perfectly, like the starwars mod i tried. i pulled the model files and a single stormtrooper model has like 5,000 triangles in it! yet somehow it renders with perfect shadows and textures.
i'm completely baffled by this limitation. none of my texture images for the models is an higher resolution than 512x512 like the original ones used in the game.
