Which limitations are there for the 3d models to work in the game?

Ok, first time trying to put a 3d model inside the game. I made an aircraft in Blender, and when I tried to put it in the game, the game crashed. To check there wasnt a problem with the export process from Blender (since I believe most people use Gmax) , I tried to add the simplest 3d model you can make in Blender, a cube. The cube didnt crash the game, so the problem wasnt exporting the model from Blender. Then, which restrictions are there for the 3d models to work in the game? I never modify a videogame before, but there has to be limitations with file size, and perhaps number of faces or polygons or something?
Can someone enlight me on this issue?
