I'm not sure anyone has ever tried to do this, but i found sound files that suggest that it should be possible, or at least planned.

I would like to set up a command button for the Nuke Cannon that when pressed, makes the nuke cannon deploy permanently until told otherwise, aka, pushing the button again, or told to move.

the main reason i want this is because i'm fed up with the Nuke cannon packing up after every shot leaving my defenses open, i feel this is game breaking and needs to be fixed.

I assume what causes this is when it is told to guard. When they see the target they want to shoot at it, but move closer at the same time like every other unit told to guard. This button will set them to guard but make the immobile and permanently deployed, removing the bug.

If all you're bothered about is the guard behavior, an alternative is to simply lower the Nuke Cannon's vision range so that it won't acquire targets outside of its weapon range.

but last time i checked, it's weapon range is bigger than the sight range, also, this feature would prevent the Nuke cannon from 'fleeing' when it's target gets to close, instead it would swap to a new target.

i realize what i wrote before looks more like raging, but i really meant for it to just be a question of 'how do i do it?' with details as why i want to do it.

That's why you would lower the vision range.

The reason I offered an alternative is because what you ask isn't as simple as you may think it is. You would have to split the Nuke Cannon into two objects: a mobile version and a deployed version. You'd then add an upgrade that triggers one version to replace itself with another (like the GLA's fake buildings being upgraded to the real thing).

I've seen it done in a few mods, first to mind, Vietnam-Glory Obscured, i already have the working second object and everything, all i need now is what script would make them switch from one to the other.
I would just copy and convert the code from VGO, but it's files are encrypted to prevent stealing.

I just downloaded it out of curiosity. It uses the same protection method as Contra and IIRC, Shockwave. Like the others, not only is it completely compromised when the game is running, but it's obscenely simple.

Rename 0VGO_Code.vgo to 0VGO_Code.big and voilà.

The only issues with what i currently have, is that the cannon still explodes from it's suicide weapon when making the transition, i believe I'll figure out how to fix that eventually.
also, no matter what it's rank level, it is shifted to veteran upon transfer.
And the last fault, it's deployed state is undeployed, I'm sure i can fix that on my own.
