Hi,
this guide explains how to set the game to the perfect resolution, get borderless windowed mode (also called "fake fullscreen") and how to make the game startup as fast as possible, even removing the EA banner.
Step 1:
Install Gentool (you probably already have)
Step 2:
Measure/make up your mind on how big you want your game to be displayed. In my case I want it to cover everything but the windows taskbar.
If unsure make a screenshot with the print key on your keyboard, paste it into mspaint and measure the desired size:
https://i.imgur.com/N074Tix.jpgMy screen resolution is 3840x2160. From the height (2160) I subtracted the height of the Windows Taskbar (in my case 60 pixels), so my game is supposed to be 3840x2100 pixels.
Step 3:
Right Click your Generals/ZH game shortcut and go to its Properties. You will find a value called target.
Something like this will be in there:
Code:"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour\generals.exe"
Add the following behind the last ":
Code:-win -quickstart -xres 3840 -yres 2100
(add a SPACE at the beginning, between the last " and the first -)
So you turn it into this precisely:
Code:"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour\generals.exe"
-win -quickstart -xres 3840 -yres 2100
- win forces windows mode
- quickstart removes shellmap
- xres and -yres force change the resolution, obviously enter the values from earlier
Step 4:
Start the game, open the Gentool Options with the Insert Key and change this value:
Window Position -> Full
You can also use the "cursor lock" if you want, to make your mouse curser not leave your game window.
Step 5:
Navigate to your ZH directory
Code:C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour
Go to the folder \Data\English\Movies (language folder might differ) and delete/rename the files:
EA_LOGO.bik
EA_LOGO640.bik
Step 6:
Congratz, your game will now start lightning-fast and without any b/s.
