Multiplayer in Command & Conquer Generals, Zero Hour, 3, Kane's Wrath, and Red Alert 3 has been saved by a group of developers and modders called the Revora Network. The new server was made fully compatible with the game, meaning you log in and play almost exactly the same as before. All you need to do is download a C&C online launcher from the group's site. http://cnc-online.net/please up this threadEdited by moderator Sunday, December 11, 2016 5:02:28 PM(UTC)

I think this will make a good sticky! Since lots of people ask about playing the Command and Conquer series online. Edited by user Sunday, December 11, 2016 5:04:43 PM(UTC)

I've had problems with this solution. Don't get me wrong, it's a good solution; but Gentool annoys me, why can't we just have C&C online without gentool for ZH? It was fine before they changed it. |

I do have to admit that Gentool is hard to get used to. However, it does provide some hidden features that may be useful.
"GenTool provides enhanced game controls and optimizations to maximize your online gaming experience. Additionally it comes with three anti cheat solutions for Generals and Zero Hour
It also states:
"Game Fixes GenTool fixes the following crashes/bugs from Generals and Zero Hour:
5.4 : Crash while having a player selected in replay view 5.4 : Crash when quitting a replay while a player places a beacon 6.1 : Crash when many units are in movement 7.0 : Shoot with scud storm anytime (scud bug) 7.0 : Pop units from tunnel scaffold (tunnel bug) 7.0 : Produce units in scaffold 7.1 : CNC Online match freeze"
They have a features list:
Menu Random Balance Resolution Lock Widescreen Observer Chat Camera Pitch Scroll Speed Control Bar Toggle HUD: Ticker - Clock - Timer Framerate (FPS) Limit Cursor Lock Window position presets User configuration save JPG Screenshot Nickname Warning Camera Rotation Fast Forward speed Replay Pause Camera Extra Render Mode Replay Observer Fog of War Adjust brightness Game Fixes Online Lobby and Statistics"
It may seem like a nuisance, but through some research I found that Gentool helps to fix server compatibility issues with users. So in the end, it does indeed help.
The main thing I like about Gentool is I can see the clock in game! Lol.
However, once you get used to it, it's like it was never there! |

those things aren't what annoy me, what's annoying is that it thinks my game is modded when it isn't. |

Hmmm that's pretty interesting, but I don't think that should interfere with your online play. Does it? |

Of course it does. It won't let me join any games because my game is a different version. (Not sure exactly what it told me as I uninstalled it when I found it useless) |

Well! That's a load of BS. Guess you might have to use Game Ranger. Either that, or you could have some modified files within ZH. Even just the smallest change within the original game files, can cause a online issue..... |

don't you think I might have already thought about all this. I repaired the game using origin twice. The only files I could find that could be modified were the gentool ones. |

I´ve played on Gameranger a lot and never ran into trouble, only mismatches from the game itself. If you make a copy of the game and use that for testing stuff for a mod or a mod itself you always have a clean game for online matches... I have multiple copies of the game and it works just fine... |

I'd go with Acidbrain's concept. |

The version I'm using is clean, that's not the problem. Plus, how exactly do I have 2 copies of ZH on origin, I tried it once before and it threw a strop. |

I made copies of the 'Command & Conquer(tm) Generals Zero Hour' folder, also have copies of the 'Command & Conquer(tm) Generals' folder... I played a lot online as i said and i was sick and tired of removing the files from my mod every time i wanted to play online. I could have put the modded stuff in a big file but wasn't in the mood for that, i would have to edit a big file every time when i changed something and I changed a lot in those days, to much crap for me, im kinda lazy... That's easy to solve. I have a tutorial on how to install lots of different mods simultaneously and create shortcuts for each mod. You can use this method to play your mod using one shortcut and have a clean install on another. |
