For some reason, whenever I try to add water to a map I am making using the Generals Zero Hour World builder, and I play the map I made, the water always appears black; just a black void. I have tried everything. I did what the tutorials say, and have even looked at other maps. When I click on the River button, the water for the river works, but no other water seems to. It always appears as this black void. I think I'm doing something wrong, but I can't seem to figure it out. Anyone know what's going on?

Did you click on the blue water line and set the elevation?

Yes, I set the elevation to 7, just as the tutorial and another map I saw said.

I guess the point was, is the water above the ocean/river land elevation. Sounds like you're working close to the bottom level (0 feet). Have you placed terrain evelation below the water? I always do, but I'm not sure if that's an issue or cause for it not working in your case. I've never had this "Black water" problem but I know others have and hopefully someone will bring their experience to light.

Yeah, the level of the land is way below the water level. Sometimes I've set it to something along the lines of 38 below, wheras the water is way above that. I see the water normally during the map editor but not during gameplay. I'm beginning to wonder if it's a First Decade issue. Or at least my copy. I have gotten error messages pertaining to other parts of the world builder. I hit ignore and I can then do what I was trying to do. It might be a flawed Worldbuilder somehow, if that makes sense. I can't remember if water worked with my old Generals Zero Hour copy. Is there any place to download the Worldbuilder separately?

Those errors happen to us all. As you said, you just ignore them. EA Games never finsihed the World Builder so you won't find a better version on the internet. You're problem may be with a game modification. Do you remember adding a Map.ini file to your map or downloading any mods? (If there is a Map.ini file, you'll see it in your map folder, which is in My Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data\Maps. Other wise it may be something to do with the Global Light Options (in the Edit menu), but I dought sence you said it looked fine the World Builder. If you have installed a mod, (even if you've unistalled it) uninstall Zero Hour, delete the game directory, then reinstall. Otherwise go ahead & upload your map folder in a .zip folder. I uninstalled Zero Hour and deleted the folder as you said. I also cleaned up the "Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data" folder in My Documents, including deleting the WorldBuilder Configuration Stats to make sure all the settings were set to default. Still nothing. On top of this, my brother has tried making water on the regular Generals world builder (not Zero Hour) and he has no mods whatsoever, and he gets the same results...

Does this happen to all maps, or just the one your making? If it's just your map, go ahead & upload it so I can check it out.

It only does this to the maps I make. Other peoples maps plus the official maps work fine. In any case, go to this link . Download either TigrisRiver.zip or Area82.zip. These two have water that always appears black, although all the other water maps on that list do too. By the way, thanks for helping me with this problem. I've been going crazy trying to figure this out!

I downloaded TigrisRiver and played it and the water shows fine. Opened it in World Builder and see you have Default water set to 7 feet and your created water at 0 feet. I switched the elevations so your created water was higher and played again. Worked fine. I removed the default water and played again and the water still showed up fine.
I don't see any problem with the water on the map. Maybe a graphic card issue??? But then you say other maps work fine. Hmmm... I don't know. You might try reinstalling the game to see if that helps.

it sounds like a driver issue for your graphics card. I would advice you to go download the latest drivers and then try again |

Ah well. As long as other people can see the water, I'm o.k. really. That's my main goal anyway. Thanks to everyone who helped, I really appreciate it. Hopefully an answer will emerge sometime.

I understand the "As long as others can see the water" comment, but don't give up. You should be able to see the water so you know that you have it set like you want. By the way, have you tried moving the default water out of the map area to see if your custom water shows? This is assuming you don't wan't to delete the default water. It might be the default water that's giving you issues. Move it aside and set the height for your custom water. Edited by user Wednesday, August 13, 2008 1:12:04 PM(UTC)

My video card is fully updated and still no luck. I still don't think this is a problem because I can still see water on the official maps and other maps people have made. I both moved and deleted the Default Water, and made a new water area. This new area was automatically named Default Water when I deleted the old one, whereas it was called water area 13 when I moved the old one. The water still appears black in both cases. I know you said that other maps are working but have you tried reinstalling the game?

Yes, I have re-installed the game completely and even cleaned up the "Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data" folder in "My Documents".

Ah well. Once again, as long as others can see the water, I'm o.k, although, hopefully I can figure it out. Thanks to everyone who helped me out. Really appreciate it!
