I can load saved official maps, I can even load the unofficial maps to play as long as I want, the problem is when i got to reload them.[:-grumpy]

I am thoroughly patched, reinstalled everything.

Still wont work, oh and this goes for generals as well as Zero Hour.

I really love this game. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Try reinstalling the game. Can worldbuilder load and make maps without a problem?

Try this:

1) Paste your maps to your desktop.
2) Go to your documents folder & delete the Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data folder. (This will delete your saved games.)
3) Now open up the World Builder & save a new map. (This will create a new Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data\Maps folder.
4) Paste your maps back there from your desktop & try to load a new saved game.

So it is a load replay/saved game problem? Try making sure the file is there and avoid renaming the file name. I can't really think of anything else...

1) I can play all the "official maps" the game shipped with (Both Generals and ZH)

2) I can play all the "Unoffical maps" on both Generals & ZH

3) I can play saved games only on the offical maps, NOT the unofficial maps....

4) I dont rename any, allow instead the game to save as a default that comes up

I did also try after reading your post a save under an alternate name, just a shot in the dark, but get this message.

Im running VISTA

NVicia GeForce 7950 GT Graphics

AMD 64 X 2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ 2.6 GHz

3326 MB of RAM

I have over a Terrabyte of HD Space

Any help will be greatly appreciated

EDIT: The file is actually here, yes

Have you looked in your "Save" folder to see if the game file is there?
I still think as Fleetatks said, it's a save/reload problem. Try a new game and save with a unique name. Also try another map. I only had this problem once and after reinstalling the game, GAMES SAVED FROM THEN ON LOADED NO PROBLEM. Some "problem loads" still didn't work. So there must have been a problem when the game was saved.

I believe we may be onto something

In the place where you save the file in game, I made Bruce01 as the file name

but when I tried to load it showed an error of "000000" or close to that

So I went to the SAVE folder and found the "000000" save file but no Bruce01

I searched my HD but couldnt find it??

Its listed in the "INGAME" file list as a save.

I tried to go to the SAVE folder and rename the file to Bruce01

Now the error message reads cannot find Bruce01 instead of cant find 000000

Any suggestions?

Gramps

EDIT: The actual error message is cant load the save file not cant find

I did like my 16th reinstall, new patches and all

here are some screenies from this mornings efforts that duplicated all the previous failures:

As you can see good folks, what is being shown in the "INGAME" save folder is not what is being shown from the actual game "SAVE FOLDER" in my documents

Just trying to post any/all pertinent information

Has this always happened since you installed Zero Hour? Or were you able to load unofficial before & am not able to now?

Also, why is the MAP file westwood arena in the Save folder?

This has only started happening since I installed the game just before Christmas.

Not before

@ The map, very strange but here goes:

If I save an Official Map it doesnt appear.

But If I save an "Unofficial map" it wont be there until I go to try and reload it and then I not only get the error message but also if i hit ALT + TAB I can see it in there while game is running in background, even though no game is being played due to the error save message.

I am so upset, I have never seen this complex an issue.

Most times a simple reinstall or at most a second reinstall

No good

Thanks for the continued efforts in assistance though, it is not unappreciated!

Bruce

Hey Papa,

I realize you've reinstalled the game many times.
I would suggest...

  • Do as Me Myself and PI suggested, move custom maps to desktop.
  • Uninstall the game, then before reinstalling, be sure all files are removed. Saved games, old map files etc.
  • Install the game in a NEW location on your PC.

Seems that there is either interference from some old save or the pathway to save a game in not right. In any case, it worth a try to load game in a different location. I don't have Vista, but it might have to do with their filing system as well???

Hey, just a thought.

Ok, in past, I have deleted via control panel and you get the "may not have removed al files, do so manually" popup message.

I do go to C/Program files/EA Games/C & C ect. and remove the whole EA GAMES File folder.

Then I go to MY DOCUMENTS/C & C and remove whole files folder.

Then I also go to to Brother Bruce/DOWNLOADS/and delete the two patches.

Where else could any files be?

Next, when you speak of selecting another location to load game, how would you make another path?

I ask because the path is set to go to C:\Users\Brother Bruce\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data\Save with the "UNOFFICIAL MAPS" going to C:\Users\Brother Bruce\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data\Maps.

Thanks for the feedback!

I do appreciate it and once I hear from you willgive it a whirl!

I wont save the files, since They arent identifable I would simply start a new game once I sort this out.

Looking forward to hearing from someone soon and as Me,Myself and PI states "MOAB: Dont be under one!"

When you go through the installation, look for a part in that has a place you could choose the installation path, or use the default one. You could try putting the directory right in the C: drive folder.

If that doesn't work, could you put you're whole "Command & Conquer Generals Data" & "Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data" (With the saves & maps in them.) folders in a ZIP folder & try uploading it? I wonder if I would get the same error using those folders instead of mine. I've got a Windows Vista operating system too so the scenario should be the same.

Nefative possibility

I install the game on my "C" Drive (you have the option wherever)

But once you install and click to start a game this happens auto-generated from within game:

Once you actually save your first game this occurs:

Any other suggestions?

EDIT: This is a complete new install

I also tried to actually move the whole file onto HD area (as oppossed to my documents) but game was unable to load)

Hey Grandpatroll,

You mentioned that you needed to load patches.
Are these Vista related?
Whatever the case, could these patches be the problem?
They seem to be the only thing different then what I've needed to do in the past to fix a problem. Just reload. (besides Vista)

Exactly what are these patches for...
Me Myself and PI, are you using these patches?

Maybe you need to download new copies of these patches (If they're needed) and give that a go?

Again, sorry this has been such a hassle for you.

Im recovering from a bad accident, on Vicodin so my choice of words doesnt sometimes come across correctly, my bad.

I meant to say Updates to game, versus Patches associated with Vista.

I got them from File Planet (I am a member of Gamespy Arcade)

Please one and all, any help would be appreciated, so keep suggestions coming!
