Just like the title said, how do I add to a unit a new ability?
I was thinking about something like adding a Naplam strike to China red gaurd, just for the example. How do you do it?

Come on, anyone? I managed to find how to add the picture of the ability to the Jarmen Kell, but when I click on it, it does nothing. How the hell does it gonna work?

Isn't the napalm strike the ability given to chinese Helix's allowing them to drop a napalm bomb on a target once over it?
I fail to see what you are trying to accomplish. If your mod were to work how would it actually be usable ingame? Would the red guard be able to "call in" a napalm strike, meaning a helix spawns off-map like a specialpower and then drops it at designated area or what?
The better understanding people have of what you want to accomplish the better they can help. [smile]

lol I jsur realized how what I wrote sounds.
I ment it to be something like the A10 plains strike, only launched from a unit LIKE red gaurd (it can be any unit). I managed to display the icon of the ability I wanted into the red gaurd commandset, but when I click it it does nothing. That what I need help with :]

Well, that's the first thing. Otherwise the Red Guards have no idea that they have access to the ability you're trying to add.

Lets stick to the basics for now.
Download FinalBIG:
http://www.cnclabs.com/downloads/downloader.aspx?fileid=240
Install it, run it, & go to your zero hour directory (Standard is C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour). Now find INIZH.big and open it (it might be in the Data/INI folder). Go to Edit->Extract All and extract to your zero hour directory (again, standard is C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour). Close the program and there will be files in Data/INI that contain the code for the units in the game.
So experiment with these files and when you get stuck, we're here to help.
If you want to modify the units, you go into the Object folder. LaserGeneral.ini contains every unit & building of the laser general. FactionBuilding.ini contains all the buildings of GLA, China & USA. Etc, etc.
If you want to change a weapon, it's in weapon.ini. If you want to change the units built at a building, it's in CommandSet.ini (don't forget to change the prerequisites in the units file). If you want to change the speed of a unit, it's in Locomotor.ini. The damage units take from different weapons is in Armor.ini. Etc, etc.

how do you change the units abilitys, add ons, costs and build times cause im changing stuff on units like build costs and times but they dont change.
wat im doing is opening finalbig then clicking file then open then in the generals zerohour folder im clicking inizh file then going to edit, extract all then a window opens called browse for folder then i go to

now when i open where the fils where extracted to i open object folder and open one of the files and edit a bit of it. then click save but and load up the game and nothing happens

That depends on the addon or ability. They're in the unit files. Unless you are going to be specific, I can't help you.

the main units im trying to change are the overlord to have the addons gatling cannon, battle buncker and PropagandaTower.
and the same addons for the helix (china)
and make command centers builder chinas dozer usa`s dozer and glas worksers
and make other buildings build other arms units if possible

Ok. Delete the folder named INI & all the .ini files in it.
You need to extract the files to
(C:)/program files/EAgames/command & conquer the first decade/command & conquer the first decade(tm)generals zero hour/
Not
(C:)/program files/EAgames/command & conquer the first decade/command & conquer the first decade(tm)generals zero hour/[b]data/ini[/b]
Make sure you do this before you do anything else.

In CommandSet.ini, you will need to find a line with Command_ConstructAmericaDozer in it. That is the USA Command center.
If you change that section from this:

It will change the US command center to create GLA workers & China dozers as well.
You need to practise coding more before you change the helix & overlord addons. Something will likely crash the game. Be careful changing things. Bad code will stop the game from starting, until you remove the problematic code.

also gla has fake buildings can they bey change into proper building like suppy stash, barracks, war factory ect.?

Use the find tool in notepad to search for "FakeBuildings" in CommandSet.ini. You can change it to anything you want. But, with the higher tech buildings & units, you won't be able to build them unless you remove their prerequisites from the object files.
For example, AirF_AmericaJetRaptor (the king raptor) has the prerequisites:

You can remove this section completely, or you can change it to this:

or even this:

Since Colonel Burton already has a weapon-based special ability, giving him another is not a straightforward task. Or do you want to replace his knife?
