Hey, just wondering, which side on Generals or Zero Hour do you think needs the most changes made to it to give it a more modern aspect, and what specific area does it need changes? Please post specific comments.

As much as I love to rush enemy bases with 20 overlords, I have to admit they are quite un-realistic

As far as i know, the scorpion and maraduer arn't real either

Almost all of the things in Generals are not real, the only things that are real are: > Humvee > Raptor > Stealth Fighter > Chinook > Comanche > US Bomber Planes (B-52 and B-2) > US Cargo Plane (C-130) > China Cargo Plane (Russian Cub) > MiG 1.44 > Technical But even then they function in a manner rather different to their realife counterparts.

The crusader, paladin, and battlemaster are basicly modifications of real tanks.

I'll also add that the Avenger is a real-life unit, though its counterpart fires Stinger missiles instead of lasers.

All sides need changes everywhere. Can you add an "All of the above" button?

Sarcasm or not, I'm gonna fix that up for you. HEY GUYS HELP ME OUT HERE. After AAHL2's line about the complete .big files, I realized I would probably have done exactly that. I haven't ever tried your guys' method for editing .big files. Can I learn a little here?

Posted by: CommieDog - Saturday, May 12, 2007 7:42:05 AM
I'd highly recommend not editing the BIG files at all; create a new BIG file with all your mod assets instead.

Alright let me get this straight. No matter what kind of files I put in my own .big file, the game will recognize it in its correct place? IE if I put a weapon and unit info in the same file, it would put weapon in weapons.ini and unit info in USAvehicles or whatever? And when I extract it to the generals file, the game uses it but the files in the generals file remain the same, kind of like covering up the original files?
Sarcasm or not, I'm gonna fix that up for you.
No, not sarcasm, I was serious that you needed an all of the above button. Generals was not aimed towards realism in the final product.
Alright let me get this straight.
Not quite but you have the right idea. If you start with the line "Weapon MarauderTankGun" and then add the properties, the game will read it as a weapon. As far as I can tell, it doesn't matter too much on what INI you place it in, the game will see it and add a weapon to the database. Weapon.ini and AmericaVehicle.ini are just named that for organization. If your .big file name starts with a 0, and you are overwriting an existing file like AmericaVehicle.ini with a file of the same name in the .big, the game will read yours instead. If you want it to read the normal INIZH.big instead of yours, simply remove the .big. You don't need to overwrite existing inis though, you should just make your own. The .big compression is usually the last part though, only do this when you are completed or want to release it. For now stay with the uncompressed INIs that are extracted into the correct folders. To check the correct folders, look at the .bigs and where it places files. AmericaVehicle.ini is located in ZH/Data/INI/Object/ for example. Having ZH/Data/INI/Object/AmericaVehicle.ini will overwrite the one in the INIZH.big. If you are using FinalBIG, I would recommend clicking Edit/Extract All and then choosing the base ZH folder. After that, the files are all in the correct places for you to edit in Notepad.

Ok, soI don't have to have a file called INIZH to edit a file inside called weapons.ini, but rather I can put a file called 0weapons.ini and it will overwrite any conflicting information in weapons.ini original? OK that was a little hard to understand. A weapon in 0weapons.ini will overwrite a weapon in weapons.ini but any weapons not mentioned in 0weapons will be drawn from weapons as normal? [EDIT] and also any notepad i save in zero hour base folder can be saved as _____.ini and there will be no problem transferring from notepad format to ini format? [EDIT] Anyone like the idea of tanks being able to crush light armor and infantry and light armor can crush infantry? As in all tanks can run over your jeeps? [EDIT]OK i have a lot to say today. I did what I thought AAHL2 told me to do, which didnt work. I'm gonna list out my steps so you can tell me where I messed up. 1.I backed up all my game files. 2.I got the files for the Ranger's weapon. 3.I copied and pasted Rangeradvancedriflethingweapon to a notepad file. 4.I gave the ranger like 999999 damage. 5.I saved the notepad to my desktop in txt and added it to an empty FinalBig document under the name Data\INI\0weapons.ini 6.I "EXTRACT ALL" it to zero hour base file and save the .big to my desktop. THANKS FOR THE HELP IN ADVANCE

The BIG file (the finished product) should start with a '0', but the individual files within it should all have the same names as the files you want to supercede (so a Weapon.ini either in your [Generals/ZH]\Data\INI\ directory or inside the new BIG file will be read instead of the Weapon.ini in INI[ZH].big).

Alright, so anything I want read from my own INIZH file I will extract in a file called 0INIZH and then all things within should be things normally found in INIZH? (put the W3D's in 0W3DZH and so on?)

Posted by: CommieDog - Sunday, May 13, 2007 7:09:30 AM
I suppose you could, but one BIG file is better as it avoids clutter.

Posted by: red leader79 - Sunday, May 13, 2007 9:02:03 AM
I'm still not quite understanding, this isnt working. Where do I put the 0? (zero not captital o right?)

Posted by: CommieDog - Sunday, May 13, 2007 8:02:54 PM
You put the zero in front of the BIG file's filename. "0mymodrox.big" should work.

If it was too realisic...USA would whip every other faction and it wouldn't be fun. No Stealth Fighter has ever been shot down. And it would be virtually impossible for a faction like GLA to shoot down high flying stealth aircraft with AAA.

Posted by: krit - Wednesday, May 23, 2007 8:38:14 AM
Actually, one USAF F-117 Nighthawk (Stealth Fighter) was shot down over Serbia. It was, however, the only confirmed kill of a purpose built stealth aircraft.

Posted by: w17force - Wednesday, May 23, 2007 2:07:51 PM
Hmmm...I didn't realize they confirmed it an enemy kill...I thought it was a malfunction...oh well. But like you alluded to...that is very rare. We brought the hammer down on Iraq/Kosovo w/minimal aircraft casualties...and Iraq had arguably the #1 anti-air defense in the world.
and Iraq had arguably the #1 anti-air defense in the world.
That would be quite hard to beleive...

I'm definitely going to make some price changes. I'm gonna make it difficult to build 40 quads, so that you can't annihilate an air attack. And really, where did the idea of an aurora slowing down after it dropped its bomb come from? Vehicles will have more strategic roles. Steamrollers will have a hard time with this mod.

there is theorys about how the ussr shot that stealth down. one is so funny, they used a telsa weapon.

Silence, comrade! We musn't let them know! They're already looking into our fluoride-powered body-fluid snatching scheme.
