GMax cannot read .DDS file formats so resave your skin/texture file as .TGA first just for the skinning phase. After your model is finished and exported into .W3D format, then you can resave the skin/texture as .DDS. The .W3D model will choose to read from the .DDS file instead of the .TGA file without any changes needed.

Is there any advantadges to using .DDS over TGA?

i did it, but now its appear in black color instead previous pink. I put the skin (tga format) on my model then convert it to DDS. I put the model as W3D in ART\W3D\ and the skin to ART\TEXTURES\ so far no results... where is my mistake guys ??

After you save your .w3d and your .TGA you can't rename it or else it will mess it up.

It should be saved in a DXT format.
