What is going to be the estimated size of the mod? Also i would like to say how many teams are there going to be because i really don't know much about the All Stars business

I'm not entirely sure about the size issue yet. There will be 3 sides, the Tiberian side, the Red Alert Side and the Generals side.

Some where around 100mb I would estimate...

If All-Stars ended up that big, we would probably have to split the mod download into parts, such as having a seperate download for music.

Posted by: Blbpaws - Monday, August 2, 2004 4:25:02 PM
We are most likely going to do that, depending on the size. There might be a map pack and other various downloads to augment the core mod.

Music, Movies, Actual Mod. I think file size will be huge.

map pack is going to be very empty if i dont get ra2 to work...

i hope there will be a low(ish) file size. i mean, poor guys who have 56k would have a heck of a time downloading 300mb, which is about 900 floppy disks of data. couldnt we have the download split into smaller sections? btw Marek i think the 314mb mod was RenAlert for Renegade

Posted by: Firion Corodix - Thursday, August 26, 2004 12:19:58 PM
even blitzkrieg2 aint close to 200mb so there´s no way we could reach 300mb i think.

Posted by: Luckie - Thursday, August 26, 2004 12:23:32 PM
Poor guys with 56k shouldnt be allowed on the internet. If you don't have the sense to pay an extra 2 bucks/month for highspeed, then poop on that. lol. Even if they ordered it for one month, downloaded GB's apon GB's of info, then went back to dialup they'd be better off.

I think it's useless to predict. Let's make it and we'll see.

Not everybody lives in the Boswash, where there are so many cable and high-quality phone lines that it is hazardous to dig anywhere.

Anyway, I think Luckie's point is a good one. Only a small fraction of people live in rural Alaska, and they might have excuses, but Luckie thinks everyone else doesn't.
What's Boswash?
It's us non-Yankee's name for the giant megalopolis that stretchs from Washington, D.C. to Boston.
Anyway, I think Luckie's point is a good one. Posted by: Firion Corodix - Friday, August 27, 2004 9:59:14 AM
in mountain areas this problem with be too, it would be alot more expensive to lay cabels in the ground there, even impossible in some areas so i guess it might be alot more expensive in those areas too. and $2 more for high speed internet is hard to believe, for my dad it was €10 cheaper to get high speed internet but that was because i was on the internet way too much at that time.

I reckon all stars wont be huge but splitting the download into many smaller pieces isnt very useful in my opinion, it makes it more annoying for bb users and all 56k users should have a download manager anyways (so annoying when it disconnects!)... i dont think it will be over 100MB, maybe 150-200 if it has music (YOU GUYS HAVE TO ADD THE ORIGINAL RA1 SOUNDTRACK ITS AMAZING) it is expensive to get proper broadband in rural locations but in cities its so goddamn cheap, only like 10-20% more cost for 1000% the speed... anyways it should be worth it so im sure the 56kers will download it anyways! [grin]

Posted by: Blbpaws - Friday, August 27, 2004 12:03:24 PM
well, who's so stupid not to live in cities? :D Ok, I take that back. No need to yell at me. Seriously, the issue is a good one. President Shrub I think just signed a plan that would make it easier to get broadband across America. Whether that happens, we'll see.

I don't really know much about wireless internet, but correct me if i'm wrong, isn't it possible to get 'Inter Centrino' and wireless broadband in rural area's, i'm getting this 'cos on UK TV there's a Intel Centrino AD where there's some people in Italy or somert, and there on the net.

Posted by: Blbpaws - Tuesday, August 31, 2004 4:45:51 PM
Some countries (South Korea, Iceland, and I think Finland being the most prominant) feature Internet service almost everywhere. In urban areas (New York comes to mind) parts of the city are hotspots where the Internet is wireless and free for use. Most apartment buildings have this as well. In places like Alaska, that's definatly not the case.

If we get to 100mb i'll have to download it over like...a week or so. heghhe rock

lol, yes that would be an issue.

Has anybody heard of BitTorrent? Its like a P2P but you all download from the same source and in a way help each other out. Heres an info linkhttp://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/introduction.html I think it may help.

Ahhhhhh the joys of having 1 megabit. This mod should be no problem with a download rate of 120kb/s I don't think that there is much you can do about the size of the mod really because no matter what you do it is still going to be a problem for some people. There are too many factors that affect the rate of download i.e. Download Rate, Location, Internet Service, Cable Quality (or Wireless Quality).
