Here at Generals World, we've recently announced our support for the 4th community-wide Open Map Competition. OMC 4 is a worldwide Command & Conquer 3 map creation contest, sponsored by the community with tons of sweet prizes for the top submitters.
Generals World is offering a Prima Games Official C&C 3 Strategy Guide to the top 6 mappers.

I've always thought the Open Map Competition was a great example of community spirit and community initiative that benefited all involved. I'm very happy to see that the fourth Open Map Competition is now getting underway for C&C3. From the main page:
Open Map Competition 4 (OMC4) is a C&C community world wide mapping contest for all fans of Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars. Mappers can submit as many entries as they wish until the last minute of August 20th, 2007 on Greenwich Time Zone. It's a nice oportunity to get your mapping skills recognized by the C&C community. Older editions revealed very talented maps and brought almost 70 maps for previous Command & Conquer games, including 5 spotlighted (score over 75%) Tiberian Sun maps, 6 spotlighted Red Alert 2 maps and 3 spotlighted Generals maps. If you have any questions concerning the OMC4 contest, please email Banshee at banshee@ppmsite.com
OMC 4 is emphasizing creative maps--that means no symmetry! For more on the rules, head here. For more on the competition in general, head here. They're are also some excellent prizes to be had, for those of you who might need some motivation.
The contest runs until August 20th, 2007, but start mapping now! If you need help getting started, check out our World Builder resources here.
Questions and comments are welcome!

I'd really encourage you fledging mappers to enter this. Let me just say that I think the prizes are very winnable if you spend some time thinking about your map and deciding how you're going to be creative and yet balanced (remember the no symmetry rule).
More than that, though, entering this competition will generate a lot of publicity for your maps--most websites in the community showcase and report about the OMC maps when the contest ends. If you'd like to begin mapping seriously, this is definitely the place to start.
Remember, all OMC maps must be brand new, nonsymmetric made exclusively by you, conform to the rules set forth at http://www.cnccommunity.net/index.php?page=omc4rules . Submit them to the OMC competition, not to Generals World. Once the competition is over, I'll make a point of highlighting on the front page and mirroring all those maps submitted.
Good luck and once again, I encourage you to give it your best shot. There's some excellent stuff to be had!

Oh, trust me when I say this: Once I get my gruby little fingers on CnC3, The Custom map population will greatly increase. I've had plenty of time to draw up so nice map layouts.
