Alright, here is my second tutorial: How to add AI to a multiplayer map
Alright, the first thing you need to do is make sure that each player has enough area for their base. If the base area is too small, the AI will stop building after it runs out of space. Now, you need to create the base areas. Make sure that you have the player start position waypoints placed on your map in the middle of each base area. Now click on the Trigger Area Tool (more commonly reffered to as the Polygon tool) and click on the very outside of the base area, on one of the corners. Now, find the corner next to it and click. Continue in this manner to draw the outside of the base area. When you are finished, click the first point to close the loop. Now where it says 'Area Name', click on the drop-down list and select 'OuterPerimeter#', where # is the player number who will be using that area (ex. OuterPerimeter1). Next, create another area, inside the other one, with a little bit of space, where the AI will build defenses and send units to defend. Make sure this area is big enough for the AI to build its structures. Name this area 'InnerPerimeter#' where # is the player number who is in that area. After that, every player will need three ways to attack the enemy. These are created as waypoint paths. Click somewhere outside Player 1's outerperimeter and without releasing the mouse button, drag it inside player 1's base. name the waypoint path 'Flank1'. Now do the same thing on another side of player 1's base, and this time label it 'Backdoor1'. Do this again on each of the bases, changing the number to correspond with the player's base you are bringing it into. When you have finished all of that, click on the Trigger Area Tool, and click on the very corners of the map, making a big box around it. Name this trigger area 'Skirmish World'. Now, make an area that encompasses mostly everything that is not a base area. Call it 'CombatZone'. The AI will only capture derricks and refineries if they are inside this area. Lastly, add the Skirmish Teams. Go to Edit->Player List. Click 'Add Skirmish Teams' and click OK.
And there you have it. can you make a tutorial, how to make movies in world builder. can you make AI to a campain mission in the same way?

Posted by: gamemastax - Thursday, June 5, 2003 5:53:10 PM
I think that I will make a tutorial on how to make movies in WB... a AI for campain mission is much more complicated.

Good info, was wonder how to do that in a map that I am currently making, this stuff tends to be a little confusing sometimes.

can you please do a small tutorial, that shows (text, or pictures) how you can make realistic ridges, and Islands etc. I'm looking at the pictures in the game, and they look way better than in my maps. And also how to build a city with pavements, civilians, civilian buildings, crains, cars etc. My cities look really boored.

hmm... I'll consider doing it when I have some free time.

yeah when u can those are my issues also would an ini tutorial be difficult?

Posted by: Hostage - Saturday, June 14, 2003 1:17:15 PM
Ya I would love to see an INI tutorial. I probably won't do well as a modeller or skinner but I think I could do the INI's without any problems.

hmm... an INI tutorial won't be all that hard. Perhaps I'll do it.

you posted a message recently i believe about a new mod you wanted to put together. Ive never taken part in a new mod but would like to help. you said in the message that you need 3d modelers and skinner and something else. I can model and skin so give me an email with more info. I dont always have time to access these large forums so email me at piriem@nimitz.navy.mil

When I add the combat zone the ai doesn't garrison buildings or it doesn't recognize it as the combat zone.

can u do a mission tutorial? It would be very helpful!

Posted by: keatonatron - Thursday, September 25, 2003 12:19:46 AM
I have a simple question... How do I add the Player Start Position wapoints? I know how to add waypoints and everything, I just don't know how to specify them as the player starting positions. I've looked all over the net, but I can't find any answers.

Posted by: keatonatron - Thursday, September 25, 2003 12:43:25 AM
Got it figured out! For anyone else who might have the same question in the future: Simply place a waypoint, and name it Player_1_Start for the first players start position. Then name the other waypoints Player_2_Start and so on. In a skirmish map, a command center will be placed on the waypoint.

i followed your instructions and everything and i'm 99% sure everything is right. But when i go to play the game, the comptuer just builds their base and then tons and tons of units but never attacks anyone or captures anything. I used the polygon tool and put in inner and outer perimeters on all bases... .did the skirmish world part, and the battlezone part. i don't know what is going on. Help me if you can, maybe i can send my map to you gamemastax...Thanks

if you actually used the polygon tool instead of the waypoint tool, then make the waypaths (CenterPath1, BackdoorPath1 and Flank1) lead to the goodies. you know, the oil or tech buildings, docks, ect. this will improve you AI performance a ton. also double check spellings and make them EXACTLY as they appear in the worldbuilder guide. use the worldbuilder guide. it has the answers to 85% of all the questions asked on this web site. if this doesnt help or if you already had this taken care of, post again. i am not an expert but close.[wink] damn jobs and women! cut into my CNC time. we can fix your map.
