I was wondering if anyone has used the WAK Editor and successfully added the effect to a map. I have followed the steps laid out in the README file but am not sure about the file extension and why it's not working. The README says;
You can then save the WAK file which must be save in the same folder as your map file with the same name as your map file but with the .WAK extension.
OK, that sounds straightforward, but when saving the file it automatically saves the file with a .map extension. This by the way didn't work. I redid the "waves" and then modified the extension when I saved the file to .WAK and that didn't work either. So, can anyone point me in the right direction?

have you tried just manually finding the map outside of WB and changing the .map to .WAK? And why am I thinking that this WAK program actually wanted it in a .txt format, one of those wave editors uses .txt I know.

DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME KIDS! Just kidding. Well Yoshi714, I did as you suggested and when I loaded the game I had a TOTAL system crash. Blue screen/dump memory etc. I'll wait to hear from someone who has added waves to their map. Thanks though for your thoughts. EDIT: I wonder also if the waves not showing could be a graphics card issue. I'm using an older system and I've noticed that some shadows don't show during game play when I do see them in Worldbuilder.

WOW, id definately say thats a hardware issue... I can't imagine how CnC could cause that, no freakin way! But that raises the question of did you do it right, and your computer just couldn't handle it. EDIT - I suppose I could try whatever it is you did, and see if I get the same result, I have 4gig of memory and 2 x 512 graphics cards. If mine crashes we can illeminate hardware. Which blue screen did you get, did it wipe your hard disk?

This brings up another question... I already have a .map file for this map and if the WAK file is supposed to be a .map file (as it generates by default) then maybe I should combine them. I won't be able to check that out though until I return home in about an hour. I'll check here for responses first before I make any changes. Yoshi714, I can't say for sure about the PC issues. Maybe a month ago (If you recall from another post about adding AI scripts) I had added another RAM card to this system and had major system problems. I've removed that extra RAM and haven't had a problem until now.

RAM is a B***H, no arguing that! What I am very certain on is that no map editing is going to bring a blue screen of death. I mean, with all the INI editing I've done, all the crashes I've had, freeze ups and the like, if it were possible it should have happened to me. I take it you havn't gotten around to playing with the AI yet have ya? Atleast testing that is fun [+1] especially once you get your butt kicked so badly you feel the urge to grab your heels.

Ok all, I found a map online that had waves. The file extension used for the map is .wak. So when saving the file with the WAK editor you need to change the extension from .map to .wak before saving to map your folder. I must say, I'm feeling pretty stupid right now. I had details set to low in game play options. I've had it set like that so long (because of slow PC) I didn't think to check. I'm now seeing waves, shadows and clouds again. Sorry to bother you all.

Sweet job on the waves, if you want an opinion on your map send it over I'll try it out!

OK, so ill get to you drummin about your map in email... EDIT - I had a question about WAK, but I got it figured out so the question has been removed. The waves are pretty neat, I am about to combine them with lightening and rain. Hopefully some thunder too, then put the map on night mode.

Interesting that you asked to see my map. It has waves. It has lightening and rain. It has thunder. It also has night mode. Hmm...

Yea I really like what you put together! Unfortunately rain is not that nicely simulated in scripts. I have tried to adjust the maps so that there are tiny puddles and streams everywhere so it looks like rain has been gathering overland. I have even attmepted recently using WAK to have waves where there is no standing water to make it look like water is just flowing down hill from the rain... Still trying to perfect the stormy look, but you have done well, and EA sure didn't do much to get this into thier maps. EDIT - the lightening script in my opinion is brilliant. Having the lighting change rapidly with the crack of the "avalanche" haha... its very real!
the lightening script in my opinion is brilliant. Having the lighting change rapidly with the crack of the "avalanche" haha... its very real!
I really like that as well, but I won't take credit for any weather scripting... We all borrow scripts and modify them to our needs. I got the weather from Fleetatks wonderful "Tournament Map F" map when looking for advanced AI scripts. So credit goes to him. I like your idea of puddles on the ground. Sounds cool if you can pull that off and still have units roll through the area. Who doesn't like playing in the mud. I may still play with the WAK file as I wanted more of a foam around my water areas rather than a wave. Really there's too much movement for the size of my water areas. It would be nice if the wave would roll around the edge more instead of "seeing wave, then not". Email me if you have any further comments about the "Map" I'm working on.

I was looking for a program that could actually make waves rather than just those flat white crashing waves on shore. I'm talking wild stormy waves out at sea... As for tanks moving through the puddles thats easy enough by painting it passable, but I do not thing there is a way to make splashes come from where they drive, not that I can think of yet atleast. EDIT - Ok, so I thought you could paint water as passable, but I guess you can't. Thats kinda dumb. If you make water real shallow like 3 feet deep, than it looks like a puddle since its so dark like the land. Also, has anyone ever seen a way to make rain? Not just the sound, but actually coming accross the screen?

There is rain showing on both the map I sent you and my first map "Four Corners". The coding is found in the map.ini file which I'm sure you could modify to make more intense.
