I have had a talk with my parents and they're still skeptical about the programs but will let me download and install them under the conditions that nothing done with them goes into the Mai computer only the old laptop
As generals only runs on our win8 pc I would like it I someone could upload all the files in program files in a zip so I could unzip it and put it on the win8 pc without my parents finding out and taking it off (this is how I installed final big and csf editor)
This would allow me to model my own stuff and stop asking the community to do it for me

what is your old laptop running? Generals, Gmax and Renx can run on anything as old as windows 98. You could install your modeling stuffs there and use a flash drive to transfer it back and forth

i cant compress it, getting a popup message, "cant make gmax.rar, access denied", same goes with zip, you need to install gmax and use an activation key.

If you parents are "computer savvy" tell them to PM me through your account so I can talk to them and explain what these programs are about so you can install then on the win8 machine.
got it running but it cant import w3d files
Go to the directory where you installed gmax, open the 'gmax' folder, open the 'gamepacks'
folder, open the 'Westwood' folder, open the 'Renx' folder, open the 'scripts' folder and open the 'startup' folder, check if there is a file called 'w3dimporter.ms', i attached the file if you havent got it.
If the file is in place open Renx and go to the 'Customize' drop down menu, select 'Customize User Interface', a window is opened in with you can asign hotkeys to import W3D files.
Set 'Group' to 'Main UI' and 'Category' to 'W3D Importer', if you did everything right 'Coolfile W3D Importer' is on the list, you can asign keys in 'Hotkey', i used 'Ctrl+C'.

In case you dont have the 'Westwood' folder in gamepacks here it is.
If you use this the 'w3dimporter.ms' file is already in place.

Posted by: qqqqqqqqqp - Monday, July 14, 2014 9:05:06 PM
*clears throat. This is the best answer XD just copy the bone (shift button) then rename it. Other than that idk
Thanks what do bones look like annd how do I rename it
Just select the bone and rename it, if you want to copy it use the clone function, clone is in the 'edit' drop down menu.
In gmax a bone is called a helper, you can check the complete list of objects, bones and textures if you go to the 'file' drop down menu and select 'Summary Info...'
I attached a pic, i circled red around the bones, btw if anyone thinks this tank is kewl than let me know and i'll upload it when im finished, still working on the textures as you can see..
Greetz and have fun
Is that texture yours it does looks cool that texture looks like the predator tank?
Yip it's the predator tank, removed the turret, took the patriotbattery and made the tubes triangular, the turret and the lids have an animation, on the pic it's deployed when it's in default state the turret is placed on top of the tank.

You have to add a texture, or you didnt assign the paths in gmax/renx.
Make a folder on your desktop, name it Zero Hour textures or something, extract textures.big to that folder, open gmax/renx and go to the 'Customize' drop down menu, select 'Configure Paths...', a window is opened, select the 'Bitmaps' tab, select 'Add', a window is opened where you can select the folder for the textures you made on your desktop, you have to select a texture to set the path, 'C:\Users\KlingonDragon\Desktop\Zero Hour Textures', or something like that is the path.
*edit*
You have to close gmax/renx after you assigned the texturepaths and reopen it, load a model from the game and voilla.
Some models look different than in game because there are more than 1 texture used for example, a file saved as W3D doesnt save the settings for the textures, always export the w3D model and also save in gmax format with the 'save as' function if you make your own models.
