Hello. I joined this forum today, as it seems to be the place to get an answer to a question I have. The thing is, I have used C&C The First Decade version of Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge, when I used Windows XP, as my bought copy of YR refused to install. In that version, the movie heroes in the allied mission "Hollywood and Vain" didn't use the original voices, instead they used the GI's voice. Very irritating... Now that I've installed Windows 7, I have been able to install both my original and bought copies of RA2 and RA2 YR, patched the game to version 1.00 as usual. I started the allied YR missions and when getting to "Hollywood and Vain", I got Flint Westwood under my control, and... he's using the GI's voice. Is this because of some crap in the v1.00 patch? And how can I get the original voices back into the game? Thanks on forehand, Gisburne edit: PS. My Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge are the original games from Westwood, before they vanished in EA's reign.

Yeah, it's because of the patch. Apparently EA got into trouble with the original cameos. As for fixing it, you can either uninstall and reinstall YR or mod the voices back in (they should still be in the game data).

I don't understand, why it all of a sudden has this change in the patch, which is 1.001 by the way, not 1.00 which I said. I used the 1.001 patch some years ago and didn't find this change in the voices, lost that patch file due to a crash of the HD, so this is a new one I found, probably the same patch that comes automatically when installing The First Decade version of the game? Excuse me if I sound as a noob, it's because I am a noob when it comes to handling stuff like this, at least when it comes to games like RA2 and such, just want to have things clear for me so that I don't mess the game up further than it already is. [wink] Is it the file named "language.mix", and how do I change/modify that file?

Oh man... It's been ages since I modded RA2. MIX files are really just a bundle of other files. To get at the files inside a MIX file, you'll need something like XCC Mixer to open it and extract what you need. You can then edit the extracted copy and it will overwrite whatever's in the MIX files.

I never even knew they didn't always have the GI's voice and no special names until this post... Well now that I know it, it's fustrating! lol

@CommieDog. Oh my! That seems like something I shouldn't even consider doing... I'd probably mess everything up!? @Gameanater. Here's the names of the three actors: Flint Westwood (Clint Eastwood) Sammy Stallion (Sylvester Stallone) Arnnie Frankenfurter (Arnold Swarzenegger) If memory serves me correct, Arnnie had one comment that always makes me laugh when thinking of it: "Come on, and let's show these girlie men of Yuri, what I'm made out of!". And yes, it's very frustrating not to have the game as it was when it came out, even after patching it... Can't see why EA landed in trouble with these voices and comments they were using, some of the comments from Flint was only refrences to film titles by Clint Eastwood. And Arnnie's lines are references to his characters in Terminator, Eraser, Predator and Total Recall. If getting in trouble for that, I would get in trouble if I quote any of their lines anywhere or anytime when talking to someone? That's just a cop-out from EA, I guess. The game is still playable though, only wondered if there was an easy way of getting the old voices back.

The first time I played it, they had the GI audio and the generic names (Cowboy, Bodybuilder, and Hero... Seriously.), I thought it was always that way. Then again, I was like 8-10 when I first played it. Heh... Now I want to go back to that game, and play it with the original audio and names... :( Do you find it bizzarre that Arrnie can't shoot buildings and the Body Builder dude is ultra-powerfull against everything else but can't shoot tanks? Bizzarre copyright infringement, perhaps?
