Hi everyone. I'd been doing some modding on my Zero Hour, adding bits and pieces to the game. It started off working all right. But recently when I'd made more changes to it, strange problems begin to occur. First when I run the game and it goes to the opening CG (with the Battleship bombarding GLA forces on the beach), the game crashes after about 2 seconds and the error dialog box pops up (you know, that "you have encountered a serious error" thing). Then I tried the Challenge mode. But when I get to Laser General, the game crashes again after the opening CG. Then I tried to play as the Laser General and this time, when I got to fight the Toxin General. It starts all right. But after about 5 minutes into the game (which is when I think he builds the Scud Storm), the error message box pops up again.

So I went to Skirmish, which turned out to have the weirdest problem of them all. When I play 1 on 1 against a hard AI, it seems to work all right, except for the Toxin General opponent, which crashes the game after about 15 mins into the game. Then 2v2 on a 4 play map turns out working perfectly even with the Toxin General mixing among. Then if I try 5 or more players, it would always crash after 15 to 20 mins into the game. I'd like to show you the BIG file, but it's too big to be uploaded (75MB), so I'll upload my inis here. Pls help if anyone has any idea what the problem might be. BTW, I'm using the First Decade version of Zero Hour on 32-bits vista.

maybe if you were modding the AI for Toxin and Laser by mistake and making it do something it can do... or you might have messed up the scud storm the toxin general uses and the partical cannon or power plants that the laser general uses
Wow, it has been a long time since I was last here.

If you said that you're thinking of a number between 1 & 1000, and asked us to guess, it would be easier than trying to help you with a mod that you haven't remotely explained.

May I also point out that there's a text file that is generated in Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data everytime the game crashes called ReleaseCrashInfo.txt. It can sometimes tell you what was the cause of the crash. It is also helpful to state what changes you made before each crash occured.

Thanks to everyone who had replied. For some reason I can't upload files to this post therefore can't even show you the inis. Lol I only posted this coz this really is some weird bug and see if anyone had encountered something similar with their mods. As for the Crash release file, yes I knew of it and checked both that and World Builder. But every time it crashed it just says "Unknown error" and World Builder doesn't pop up any error message at all. So still I cannot find the cause of this. But again like I said I was just trying to see if anyone might have encountered something similar to this and would have some idea what the cause might be. Once again, thanks to everyone who replied to this post.

Is this because you don't know how, or because you get an error, or because you're trying to attach a folder, which is impossible?

I've come across this problem a dozen times. I know it's most likely causes. That doesn't mean I can help you without any info whatsoever.

No, I tried to attach a rar file but the page wouldn't load when I try to do it.

Okay I found out why it wouldn't load up before. Because of the lousy net speed I have uploading anything that's larger than 100KB to this forum would be likely fail...And the file is 18MB and after compressing it's still nearly 1MB...

BTW can I also ask how exactly to add a new general? I used the unimplemented pos10 in Challenge mode and added it in playertemplate.ini(made it starts with Stealth Gen's Command Center and work, don't actually have an ini for it yet.), it shows up in Challenge Mode and is playable, but cannot be found in Skirmish. I remember to have "Starts Active" and "Is Playable" twitched to "= yes" in Challengemode.ini and playertemplate.ini, but why doesn't it show up in Skirmish?   INI.rar (10kb) downloaded 5 time(s).

It appears to be this line:
  Side = GLAStealthGeneral
I made an absolute guess and then found that changing it to a unique side made the general work.

I tried that but didn't work. I'm wondering, which line in any of these inis link the ini in the object folder to the generals? You know, so it tells that the Nuke General uses "NukeGeneral.ini" for itself and so on?

It did work for me. So I'm not sure what's going on here.

The game opens all ini files. It doesn't matter whether it's called NukeGeneral.ini or XXX.ini. There is no link whatsoever between the name of the file and the general.

Wow, actually it worked. Overlooked the tag under the Boss General...sorry about this...
But still, I wonder which line links the general to its ini file? At the moment it's quoting the Stealth General's ini.

BTW, how do you like the portrait?๐Ÿ˜

The general has:
Side = GLAStealthGeneral

& the units have:
Side = GLAStealthGeneral

That's the only link. It's got nothing to do with the file names.

BTW, how do you like the portrait?

You do remember that you only uploaded INI files, not pictures?

Okay, I thought you had plugged it in the game and tried.๐Ÿ’€ But anyway...
And yes, I don't think there is a line linking the ini to the general. Coz it looks like the things that distinguish the generals apart are just their starting structure and unit.
Well once again, thank you really much about helping me. Without it I'd spent a long time looking for a solution due to my careless nature๐Ÿ˜‚
