You're not going to change the airfield sounds in the game without a mod, but the good news is that it doesn't require any INI changes or anything complicated so you 'might' still be able to play multiplayer with ZH players.

The main question is, is your sound in the .wav format already, and is it short in length?

Okay then...

You'll need to view the .big files in the game directory:
http://cncgeneralsworld.com/downloads/downloadmanager.asp?action=showPage&page=modding
Scroll down until you see FinalBIG v0.4 & download it.

After that go to the Zero Hour game directory: C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour\
1) Open the AudioEnglishZH.big file with FinalBIG.
2) Click Edit>Extract All & browse for the Zero Hour game directory & select it. (Don't open the directory, all you want to do is select it.)
3) Click OK. This will extract all the contents of the AudioEnglishZH.big file into the game directory. (It may take several minutes for the extraction to complete. Note that FinalBIG will look frozen during this time.) So if you change the files that get extracted, they will override the files in the AudioEnglishZH.big. So if you don't like what you're doing, just delete the files you extracted & the game will use the AudioEnglishZH.big again. This goes for all the files that are in .big files.
4) Extract all files for the AudioZH.big too the same way.
5) Now open up the INIZH.big file & scroll down until you see, Data\INI\SoundEffects.ini.
6) Click on Edit>Find & type in the Find window, AirField (All of the stuff EA named has no spaces in the INI files. You'll then see this:
AudioEvent AirfieldUSASelect
  Sounds= baiasela
  Limit= 1
  Volume= 50
  Type = ui player
End
The baiasela is the file that the airfield uses. So if you go to the files you extracted & replace the baiasela.wav file with another wave file with the same name, that is what you'll here in the game. (The files are located in the Data\Audio\Sounds\English\ folders in your game directory. Half of them will also be in just the Sounds folder.

If you're still confused about something don't hesitate to ask.

MMaP, you can just look it up straight through FinalBIG, you don't even need to extract it...

Right, and secondly, all you needed to say was "rename your .wav file to baiasela.wav and place it into the Data\Audio\Sounds\English folder". You did all of the work for him, why does he need to use FinalBIG?

Extracting all of the .wav files allows him to preview the sound clips before replacing it. Also following my steps will give him the opertunity to change other sound affects too, not just the airfield.

you would have to remove the sound from the .big file. then again, that'll probably cause a crash. you'd probably have to put in an "empty" .wav file

I'd be happy to do it. But unless you provide me with a replace file, I can't get very far.
