me and my bro thot this up for like a futureistic mod
The Scrapper Bot, a small droid can gather peices of destroyed vehicles and turn it into scrap metal witch can be used to build other vehicles
its weapon is a small welder like thing that is used to rip apart the destroyed vehicles and gather parts for scrap metal its welder does lite dmg to infanrt and does meduim dmg to vehicle [bout as strong as a missle defender agaisnt vehicels] it can also repair other vehicles and structures with a faster rate then the builders

info

cost: 1450$

gathers scrap meatal from destroyed vehicles
repairs buildings+vehicles

good vs vehicles

weak vs infantry, aircraft

How would the scrap metal thing work? After every couple dead vehicles it builds a unit? I figure it would kill units with its welder to harvest them.

Let me do a better job at Explaining:
Instead of Tanks and Structures just going *BOOM* and sinking into the ground, They Create leave a Debris Feild when Destroyed. They would sit around for a few minutes, before dissapearing.

Name: Recycler
Cost: Around $1500-ish
Description:
As battles became ever larger the resultant debris fields became too sizable to waste. A new development in the field of Robotic technology efficiently solved this problem; the recycler, A new Vehical, similar to the Sentry Drone, appeared. With its help, the apparently lost resources could be recovered. The Recycler Harvests the Debris Feild, takes it to the Supply Center, and Converts it into money. The Debri Feild would be Worth 1/3 of the Unit's Origional cost.

It could be a cool idea, and knowing absolutely nothing of doing modding like what you're describing you shouldnt take what I say at face value, but I would think it would require a lot of work to keep the hulks around for awhile. The only thing I can think of would be to make the things like what are spawned when playing as the GLA and make it accesible to whichever side this is applicable to, but only for the recycler unit.

not being a coder but I did look around the ini files, I think making dedbre stay would be a major game enjin overhaul, this wouldn't be a small project at all but good if someone pulls it off

I say good luck to anyone who atempts it

I think this is possible and it wouldn't be a major game engine overhaul or something that would be hard to do. Most units leave hulks and throw debris already, look at the Humvee for example. EA has made the models (Except maybe the recycler but we can find a drone model for that.), so the only thing you need to do is change the hulk properties around. You need to take away the lifetime limit and let it stay until destroyed (Or extend it.), then you need to make the hulks selectable, etc.

The only problem, is that when you make hulks stay there until destroyed, huge wars or lots of wars would make the game lag due to alot of objects unless you recycled the units. You could possibly just extend the limit, so if you don't recycle them within 1 or 2 minutes it goes away, or something like that.

Thats what I was thinking. They stick aroud for a 45 seconds to 1 1/2 minutes before leaving.

why not just make the scrap from the gla be selectable and only collectible for the recerlyer?

i think you should just stick to having to destroy a unit to take its scraps.
The apocalypse has begun...

I think the easiest way to do this would be making an effect like how the GLA sees the upgrade/money crates from dead vehicles, except for the USA, though not sure how you would limit the pickup to one unit. I suppose the easy way out would be a "total army overhaul" upgrade where everyone either sees these scraps or doesnt before the upgrade is purchased.

Nah, all you have to do is change the method of how it "picks up the scraps". If it is going to gather, it probably isn't going to run over the scraps and have an object appear.
