Hey, guys. I think for now in my spare time (not like i'm not busy on G:BF) I'm gonna model and code units so you guys can test them out and if you want use them yourself or in you own mods. So far, I've built an aegis system in place of the Fire Base. Instant lethal hits on all aircraft, ten second reload. All you guys will have to do is download the models and codes, and then add the respective files to respective folders, simply laid out in this little readme. If you want me to design your own ideas, feel free to post here too. I'm glad to have practice on these things, thanks in advance and best wishes.
For anybody who knows, is there any good full-screen recording device i can use to make a video of how to do this, its EXTREMELY hard to compact into a word document? I realize this is way too complicated, so admins and mods, dont even bother commenting on that. Its easier to say this in steps, but here is the readme. Some steps are specific to buildings that replace the firebase, for any option feel free to substitute those steps that say 'Firebase' with another structure.
In accordance to a complaint by Krit, the following document does NOT contain the correct method of editing these files. Instead, read it and then look through this post and the below responses.

May I suggest that you start off with something small scale? Considering you're still new to modding, a mod project of this size would be too much to handle and not very likely to see completion.

Oh, and one more not to other people reading this. DO NOT FOLLOW THE TUTORIAL given by red leader79 in which he stated above. It is highly against recommendations by modders not to modify the game files and could require a reinstall to fix any problems caused in the process. Original game files SHOULD NOT BE MODIFIED in any way and there are alternative (and easier) methods.

Come on Krit why shouldnt they do it if it WORKS if they do it right? Still looking for a video software. As for urbanops, you should really think about this mod. There is already a group adding the Brits to ZH and I am part of that group. If you want to join us for now, feel free to, just email mike_lowein7@hotmail.com about it, Spartan07 mod director. As for adding 8 + sides, i would reccommend thinking seriously about it. Thats several years of work.
And Krit, you never told me the other way, im in the dark and ive always done it this way. As for problems with modding the original gamefiles, am i supposed to extract it and do my own? 'Cause then really the only difference between that method and my method is with my method i have to get the files off the CD if I mess up.

Coun't you just copy the code/files under a new name, and make the unit all of its own while taking the base code from the firebase or something like that? I do not mod, but I do know quite a bit of HTML and Basic, and that would work with them... And are there any beggining basic modding tutorials out there? THanks.

I thought I already warned you multiple times NOT TO MODIFY the original game .BIG files and use extracted files in sub directories instead. You can extract them, but DO NOT add things to them. The main difference is the fact that with your method, you work directly from the .BIG files, with the other method, the only thing you do with the .BIG files is extract needed files from them and modify them once they are clear outside the .BIG files.

THIS is just me, but when i extract my own little files to Generals, they show up in the directory and mess up my navigation by having millions of little folders. I'll keep it my way, but i won't tell others to.
BONYCATFISH - if Krit will agree, my only problem with modding is the extracting part, which he can advise you about. IF you want to start modding, you will need to download the following basic utilities along with tutorials. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me, and CommieDog is probably the dominant .big editing master as of now, so feel free to ask him anything as well. And for a Mod or Admin, please make the following links a Sticky topic so others don't have to ask?
http://cncgeneralsworld.com/page.asp?page=tutorial:skinning3dmodelsingmaxwithrenx  ---you will need to use the tutorial itself, as well as download the three useful links also shown on the page IN THIS ORDER - GMax, RenX, Chilliskinner
the link above and its three 'useful links' concern Modelling, the way you make and insert your own units into generals. to do that, as well as modify game files and mess around with numbers, you will need the following -
http://cncgeneralsworld.com/downloads/downloader.aspx?file=/downloads/modding/finalbig040b.zip
as soon as you run that program, you can now open all of the game's .big files, the basic filetype for this game. the icons of the files of this type (once you download this) will appear as a torn piece of paper marked in red as 'Doc1'
BUT BONYFISH - please, save us all time and effort and edit a copied version of these files. editing the originals without knowing what you're doing (even knowing what you are doing) can result in fatal crashes of zero hour and are advised against.
I'm considering making a complete guide to modding (advise me if this has already been done) that will be open to revision by generalsworld members, like a Wiki of modding. I think this would be a good idea, and then we could make it a sticky topic and nobody would have to keep asking these questions.
here is exactly what the .big files will look like

red leader79, how much longer would it take you to notice that the .BIG files are container files and not actual files themselves?

Whoops, I'm still messing up while on a mod team, oh well, theres always room to learn. I never really put thought into it, I just knew how it worked and took advantage of that. Does the fact stand that nobody has made a complete modding guide yet? I'm gonna get on this, 45 minutes of nothing to do right now. I'll then post it on here and submit it to review.

DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. You get your own problems fixed first THEN I'll have no problem with you trying to help others.

OK, but admit that is my only problem for now. I'm going to keep going on this tutorial and you guys can edit it, deal? And anyway, I'm not limited by what you say, I could make it anyway.

Look, leave it to the pros, I don't want new modders to get mis-directed by tutorials written by in-experience modders, such as the example in the top of this page.

Krit, read my posts please. I say these are open to revision, and I'm just building off of other tutorials including Luckie and Killakanz. Anything you think is wrong, you can take it out yourself. Here is the part I have already started on. So far, I have stated basic facts and explained some parts of modelling. The main reason I am making this is so people don't have to ask about it all the time, but can just look at a sticky topic and get the information. And I get the idea, please delete that picture so that the post messages don't run off the page.😁 Ok here is the portion I finished tonight, will continue tomorrow. This is 'Modding in a Nutshell', so to speak.

I kinda highly doubt, just by looking at the picture of that model example you used, and the fact that you even have a completed model of it, that this is going to be of any quality...

It's not about the model, its about skins. Lets drop the grudge here. That comment was completely unnecessary. And please, delete that picture, I'm tired of reading messages off the side of the page.

I'm reccommending killasmods.gamemod.net instead of myself. Although i can do what killakanz did, I'm probably going to miss a step and for something that's already done, I'm too lazy to do it. I will either copy and paste what he said or give the website. I figure for anything not stated in there they can still come here for and you guys or I can add it to the guide. Please remove the picture. Its running messages off the screen. BTW has anyone ever made an index of the ini files' terms? Some are confusing. I might do that too, whatever keeps me working.
