in short how do i place defenses that are aggressive to players, and are powered. every time i try i get little lightning bolts above their "heads" meaning they have no power, i can't target them meaning they aren't aggressive, and they just kinda sit there. if someone could show me how to do this i would be much obliged and it would generally help in some of my maps.

For the power issue, try making some power plants that are on the same side as the defenses, beyond the boundaries if you don't want them destroyed. And if you can't target the defenses make sure they aren't set as yours or allied or anything like that

i'll attempt to upload the map i've been testing on if anyone is willing to show me.

i assume i place the link here for you to download... it never wants to work for me

The only way I know to do this is to give the "defenses" to an AI player. I would suggest adding a "Start position" at the top corner of your AOD map and surround this area with hills (or water) to keep this player locked into this area. This is so they can't build a base and expand.

You could then load the default AI scripts into your map so you can write scripts for this player. You could shroud this area of the map to hide this player. Then you could also write scripts like, if this player's start position is 4, turn control of unit "defense1" to this player.

As far as loading files to this forum, are you doing it as I explained in your other post? Zipping up the map folder and using the Insert a File button found below the text writing area? It should be a zipped folder instead of a .rar file. I can't open those. Here's an example of a very basic AOD map and how a file should look when inserted to this forum.

ah, so far all of it's in rar.

and i'm not necessarily talking about a AOD map. just general play map.

Well to get any defenses to work, they need to belong to a player on the map. Even if you don't make it a AOD map persay, you'll need that hidden AI to control these defenses. Another option is to turn control of these defenses to the first player to get to that location. It all depends on what you're trying to do.

what i'm trying to do, and would ultamantly like to do is to implement this into my king of the hill maps.

so in short,

when player A attempts to take the hill, the defenses target player A's units and fire. when player B-H attempts to take the hill, defenses target player's units and fire. when defenses are destroyed, they stay destroyed for 15 minutes before spawning.

but unfortunately i can't wrap my head around the iff statements and don't know enough about coding to do so. thus why i've been asking for help involving if anyone thinks they would be willing to help code the maps i've made. it's not that i'm lazy, i'm always trying to improve my maps, it's just i don't understand a lot of the back code, say if there is only one entrance or exit to a base, where's the back door go? if i want certain side to only use one kind of unit, how do i do that? if i only want them to get to a certain point and then attempt to hold it and contentiously reinforce that point how do i do that? in short i want the enemy to treat the hill as if it was their base but protect it a bit more than they would their own base.

the maps i make aren't AOD maps (wish i knew enough about programing to make them), they aren't casual play maps where its just destroy the other's base. it's get to the hill, and hold it. eventually i want to learn how to make it so every unit has a point value, so when the person holding the center destroys units, they gain points, and when they loose units they loose points. never going past zero though.

the game would end after they reached something like ten thousand points. infantry give you one point, light vehicles 5, heavy vehicles 10, seauge units 15, and unique units 25. air units would give 5 as well. but my delema is i don't know coding worth a damn so no matter my ideas and goal, without a coder i'm stuck just making maps and hoping that eventually down the line someone adds some king of the hill code to it. i know it can be done because i've seen it done in various maps. AOD in style but it was the subgoal to win the match that got me thinking. loose if counter reaches zero, win if it doesn't at the time of 15 minutes. got me thinking if you could add a point system and a tracking system to it so it kept and updated score.

i've tried my hand at coding AI before, it ends in disaster. it either flat out doesn't work, AI self destructs, or the workers go places but never build.

These things can be done. If this is for Generals or Zero Hour I'd be willing to help you get started. I however need a map made by world builder and posted as we've talked about.

As far as "where to place the backdoor"... These names should NOT replace the waypoint name but go in the "waypoint label" area. You can have Center, Flank and Backdoor on the same pathway.
