    Hi!!

    this tutorial will show you how to make a nice cliff
    This tutorial is for med skilled mappers requiers knowlage in the tools and usage on the program

    i have seen many BAD MADE CLIFFS like this one:
    Cliffs like this should only be allowed in AOD maps

    The first thing you have to do is make the side of the cliff, select the Mound Tool
    and and put the "Brush width" and the "brush further width" options to 3 then mound up the cliff side like this:

    Now set both options to 1 and add some moore detail:

    Now smooth it a bit with the Smooth Heigth tool:

    Rotate the camera and use the "Heigth brush" tool to make the heigthed plathoue:

    Press Ctrl+I to [img]http://www.cncgeneralsworld.com/forums/[/img]show impassible areas, press the ramp tool and create a ramp:

    Smooth it for more realism:

    Now pick the "Large Tile" painting tool and pick a darker Tile and paint it around the cliff like this:

    then take an even darker Tile and paint just arround the cliffs:

    Now it's time for adding the cliff's Tile pick a good cliff tile and paint on the cliff:

    Use the "Auto edge out" tool to soften the tiles:

    At last add some trees and roads for more realism:

    That looks a lot better then a cliffs I've made! Nice job! 👍

    I've never thought to put darker textures around them like that.

    I have always made cliffs a little different to that and I have always thought they didn't quite look right.

    Maybe your method might fix a few of my errors.

    Although it could do with more than one mountain rock texture. Still looks good though

    I agree nice job. I have done a lot of practice with cliff's too. Strangely enough reading your tut is like deja vu, lol, I start at 7 and 7 then go to 3 and 3 then down to 1 and 1 similar to what you do to get some added depth and variety. Most importantly I try to use mostly random movement since our minds typically try to work as a patern and patterns aren't natural. There are a couple of textures taht work well between that rock one, and the grass. Basically a cross between the two, add that in and it would look prety much perfect. They have transition textures for most any mnt to ground transition rather its sand, grass, dirt or whatever. Thats a good looking cliff though! Nice job all around.
