Hello, new to the forum but trying to find answers..

Used to have Generals on CD version, with this I could edit the INI files no problem to change weapon powers etc.

Now have the Mac App Store version as the CD version no longer works with the new Mac OS.

I can still open and edit the INI file, but when I go to open the game it pops up with a warning saying the files have been altered, then closes down.

I have tried two methods, first by just unit a text editor to change the file, and secondly using GameExtractor software. Both have the same issue.

Has anyone else had this problem??

Many Thanks.

I'm not sure with mac but i would assume the game works in a similar way. Have you tried packaging your ini files in a .big file?

Yes tried that with the GameExtractor, it unpacks the .big fillet let you edit it, then re-packs it into the .big but it seems the game has some way of knowing that its been tampered with 😞

It should be a matter of just packaging the modded files in a big and making sure that the big comes first alphabetically (just start the name with a 0 or ` or something like that)

On a mac, you can't change the .big files size. So for every character, you delete or add you have to delete or add another. For example, let's say there is a Variable named PrimaryDamage = "5.0"
Now let's say you want to change this to "50.0" you will have to delete a character to retain the file size. You can find comments that start with a ";" text here and just delete characters from there. so let's have a look at an example again.

PrimaryDamage = "5.0" ; This is the strength of the weapon

Modded Example:

PrimaryDamage = "50.0" ; This is the strength of the weapo <-- Notice I deleted one char to make up for the added 0

Hope this helps, It's a pain but it works. That's the only way I know on Mac to edit files without getting an error.
** Note also if you delete a char you have to add one back somewhere IE: in a comment somewhere, remember always keep the file size the same.

I bought one, Not so sure from Mac Game Store or the Mac App Store but I can mod the game files with ease. The first Decade CD version that I owned for very long time still have but only works for Windows not the Mac.
