Hi all, I'm new to these forums but not to map making/scripting. Actually I'm a quite advanced scripter 😄

I simply have 1 small question which I never could solve myself. Do you guys know how the timer/counter order visibility is affected? What I mean is I want to get the P1 Frenzy (see picture) to the top but I simply do not know how. I tried out different things like putting spaces in front of the timers/counters, editing the time they get put in etc. It all it did not help at all.

UserPostedImage

Does anyone know what the problem is? If you guys don't know then I will have to release my Race Map v3.1 without the fact that it is shown correctly 😞

Thanks,
Stefan

edit: you guys don't have an auto-picture resize code running, damn 😞 I will upload a smaller pic soon.

edit2: this should be better now 😄

I know I dealt with this issue years ago on a map but no longer have the map. I think it had to do with the order in which timers are triggered, possibly the order listed in the str file. Been too long to tell you for sure but I remember fighting with that one as well.

Damn, too bad you don't know the solution either. The order of the str file doesn't matter either and neither does the time you put them in the map. The Frenzy, Stealthed and Speaker Tower one appear and disappear the whole time, and the Frenzy is always on the bottom and the other 2 always on the top. Tested it out many times.

To show you the entire script files would be way too long anyway. My Race Maps tend to have somewhere between the 400 and 800 scripts 😛

Oh well, it will take some time anyway before I will release my v3.1 Race Map.

It's sorted by reverse numerical order in ASCII by the counter name.

I.E. with these:

Set 'Player 2 Lap Counter' to 0
Set 'Player 02 Lap Counter' to 0
Set 'Player 1 Lap Counter' to 0

player 2 will be at the top, player 1 will be in the middle, and player 02 will be at the bottom.
If you need help, post in the forum. You'll get help a lot faster than if you send me a PM.

So basicly I need to rename the counters in a better way, if I understand it correctly. If that is so then it's easy 😁 Except for the fact that I would need to change about 150 scripts 😞

lol i find it so funny that people are still building race maps just because i started it a long time ago.

but i have to admit: your race map is far more advanced than my ones ever were.

i really like your map setup idea with the humvee. the different difficulty levels and lap lengths are really nicely done. what i miss are trains, (non stealthed) demo traps, bomb trucks and barrels. all in all your map is good but also too repetitive. you seem to be kinda out of ideas?

take a look at my latest project if you need some fresh ideas:
http://www.cncmaps.com/index.php?automodule=downloads&showfile=1307

seeing your screenshot i assume that you scripted the camera movement to follow the helix?
if yes then do that with a stealth comanche instead 😁

if you have no idea what i mean by that then take a look at mission 9 of the map i linked above.

Just for your information. I make race maps according to version numbers like this:
Version x.y
x = a whole new map. Also, the higher the number the more advanced the scripting is.
y = the higher this number, the better scripted it is with less bugs etc.
So shortly said, I made 3 different race maps already.

For now I made this:
v1.0: little project to learn the scripts etc. The map isn't that bad but it still has some annoying things in it. Never could be bothered to make a better version.
v2.0: a whole new map. You start out with a Sentry Drone and have to do 3 races which you can chose your vehicle with (Tech,Buggy, Nuke BM). Last part (race 4 is done with ECM and you eliminate player by player.
v2.1: random general points/sw droppings and difficulty level introduced. Also changed the ECM to Ambu.
v2.2 to v2.5: mostly bug fixes.
v3.0: a race map with a tech.

lol i find it so funny that people are still building race maps just because i started it a long time ago.

My idea was to actually quit after the first race map I made in 2009, however, someone bugged me to make a new one a few months ago since he found out that I made it and we are good mates atm. When I made my first one it was actually for me to learn the scripting part of worldbuilder, I didn't do a bad job with it but could have done much better.

The version 3 map was a little project I had in mind. Indeed it gets a bit repetitive, but pretty much all my first versions are (see version 2.0 for example). I try to have not a lot of moving things like trains around, but I might change the map lay-out in version 3.1 a bit anyway. I didn't put in Demo Traps because I cannot respawn them without getting a serious error, don't know if you have that same problem. Bomb trucks are actually quite a good idea though 😁

Maybe you have noticed, but there are random general points/sw drops on medium and hard (hard has more of them). They don't get activated by entering a certain area, but by a random timer. In other words, you never will know when they hit.

In version 3.1 I'm making a special bonus for your vehicle. I actually wanted to use scraps randomly popping up for it, but cannot do that without map.ini, I don't want to use map.ini since I want the map be able to be send through ZHOL. Anyway, it is now done randomly with timers.

The special power-ups are just for a short period of time, so they will of course die out. These are the special powers:
- Instant repair
- Frenzy (level 3 and for 1 min)
- Helix with speaker tower following you (1:30 mins)
- Tech getting stealthed (for 45 secs iirc)
- Tech indestructible (for 20 secs)

Besides, I kinda rushed out 3.0 anyway, since way too many people begged me for it.

thats what iv done in my mission map in mission 9:

the problem is: if you let the camera follow a specific unit, then you wont be able to select that unit anymore.

thats why you need a unit to follow your unit and the camera to follow the other unit.

thats where my hint comes in: use a stealthed comanche instead of the helix, then you wont see the "helper" unit anymore.

but seeing your last post i see that you use the helix for another reason so i was wrong.

Thanks Annihilation, your idea did the trick 😁

Stupid me that I didn't think about it since it should be quite obvious 💀

After some testing with other people I can finally release version 3.1 now 😁

Actually I only looked on your map on how to spawn units to the players. Everything else I found out myself by using common sense. I liked the idea of race maps, but I didn't have a lot of scripting experience back then.

I knew there are over 16 different Techs, so that's why I used Tech only on this race. Else I would have made multiple race units again.

You would have also noticed I don't tend to like using subroutines and flags 😛

I only played 3 of your race maps btw. I don't know how many you made.

its not, thats why i asked you if you knew it.

you seem like needing it for your map.

well its pretty simple, yet tricky. took me a long time until i came up with this idea:

you spawn one indestructible helper unit outside of the map border for each human player and give them the names player0 - player 7 then you can create scripts with the condition.

*** IF ***
Unit 'player0' is owned by Player '<Local Player>'
*** THEN ***
Show military briefing String: 'Hi player0' for 6000 milliseconds.

WARNING: you can use this only for briefings, counter visibility and camera movements/effects and a few other things.
using this in any other way will most likely cause a missmatch. even sound effects cause a missmatch if you use this condition.

It works with defeated/victory windows too. I did it for a race map a few years back.

I will never understand why that didn't cause a mismatch.

Compared to you guys I suck at scripting 😪
