Hello!

Today I've taken a first try at the Red Alert 3 world builder. I've used the tutorial on this website to guide me. First of all, let me congratulate the person who wrote that tutorial - it is awesome!

I did however run into something unexpected. I think I've done everything I need to do with this map, and everything should be ok with it (at least the worldbuilder doesn't complain about anything). However, when I save it, exit the worldbuilder and start a skirmish game with Red Alert 3, the map selection list shows up empty. As a demonstration, see this screenshot .

What could possibly cause this to happen?

I could also attach the map if needed, but since it's not finished I'd prefer not sharing it for now. If needed I have no problems with uploading it though.

Looking forward to hear from you. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Jan and welcome to the forums..

Not sure I remember this particular error before, but check that your maps folder has the correct path...see:

http://www.cnclabs.com/maps/redalert3/

Win 7 has the same path as Vista

if that is ok - you might also check that you have admin user rights, so there's no permission problems.

One other thought is the naming of the map in worldbuilder.. found under the Edit -> Edit Map Settings menu options.

Hope this helps - if not, post back and we'll investigate it further.

Well, the strange thing is that -all- maps disappear. Have a look at the screenshot, the whole list is empty, not just the map I made.

So there must be some serious error somewhere with this map or custom maps in general that causes Red Alert 3 to not read any maps, custom or not. I will check the administrator privileges. As I saved the map directly from worldbuilder, the path and everything should be fine I think.

One thing I just thought of which would be interesting to try, is to see if other custom maps work okay when I remove this one. That's something that will have to wait for tomorrow though, it's already 2:27 AM here and I don't want to push it. ๐Ÿ™‚

For future reference (perhaps for someone finding this via Google): deleting the entire C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Red Alert 3\Profiles\ folder fixed it for me. In another topic  I've been told deleting the "skirmish.ini" file in the Profiles folder should be enough.

Thank you JanMiddelkoop for posting this. I just added some maps that were emailed to me and when going to play, the map list was empty. By removing the skirmish.ini file, all was restored. Thanks again.

Hi, bit of a newbie here, but i have a related but different question.

recently made a new map, in the RA3 worldbuilder, and made sure the map was named and the player positions were in, added the skirmish players.

put the map files in the correct folder, i am running windows 7

but now matter how many times i delete it, re-save it or move it to and fro,

it simply REFUSES to show up in the skirmish map selection, all the OTHER maps are there including some custom ones, when i activate a mod, but otherwise, it wont show my custom map.

details,

the map is just my first foray into building maps.

its very big, crudely made, scattered with resources and breaks all the dont's in the manual.

aside from that i just want help getting it to work in the **** game.

Also an important detail, i am using the Steam version of the game

Did you "Name" the map under Map Settings? If this is left blank, your map won't show.

and made sure the map was named

if i saved it to both system and user maps would that make it not show?

Hi Eviance.
Normally it would - the 2 main usual things that would prevent your map showing up are as Drummin has noted with the map name and if you save a map without player start points set... and you say you have done both those.

If you can load other custom maps, the path to the correct folder would seem to be ok too.

If you can zip up your map and e-mail it to me ( gren๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡นcnclabs.com ) I'll have a quick look through - see if I can spot anything else..

Welcome to the forums! ๐Ÿ˜„

Eviance...

Thanks for sending over the map.. the solution to the problem is in your e-mail.
Place the Starting Point inside the Map Boundary though and not as I have shown in my example.

Keep on mapping ๐Ÿ˜
