How exactly does the B-52 in ZH drop bombs in a line instead of on a single target? I would assume it has something to do with locomotors but just checking... afraid to mod anything when you guys could tell me exactly what my solution is.

The carpet bombs themselves do not have a locomotor. The behavior is controlled by the relevant OCL.

Is it still possible to give bombs from a unit a locomotor that allows them to fall in a line similar to the carpet bomber?

That should be possible by setting Locomotor=SET_NORMAL None and adding a PhysicsBehavior module to the bomb in question.
