Just wondering if anyone got into the beta that isn't using their cd key. I got into the beta the other night but I won't receive my key until Release Candidate 1 is officially released. I'm interested to benchmark how much faster games on run on it with their new disk caching stuff.

It wouldn't bother really, it isn't worth the hassel, Vista is way too slow and buggy, I tried playing Quake 4 on and didn't notice any difference (but it's at full specs anyway) and the screen turned black everytime it saved.

Well, I've got the latest release (one release before RC-1 which comes out soon) and I want to get it on my dad's computer. It's mostly an experiment to see if a 40 year old adult can mess up vista as fast as XP.

Besides, that machine is already dual booting linux and OSX. I'm going for the trifecta.

SAGI!!!! Mike had told me he talked to you on ICQ. Man, good too see that you're alright and still online! I've been better (a death in the family this weekend) but other than that, great. How have you been?

Those are great links, especially the last one. The last one really shows that Vista's more advanced disk caching works very well.

Windows Vista automatically calls home with windows vista so using pirated cd keys is a lot (too much) work.

🙂 Yeah, I'm back, for now. And yeah, I'm alright.
Sorry to hear about your loss.

Didn't realize that about the CD key, but then again you can just not connect it to the internet. heh.

Is it you in your avatar? 🙂

I'm just downloading a pre-release of RC1 one, MS opened it up to 100,000 people max, you can check out the link but it doesn't work anymore:

http://download.windowsvista.com/preview/prerc1/en/download.html

When I have it installed I'll tell you what the noticeable differences are.

Thats the version I've been trying to get in on. I have a copy but no product key. My friend has a copy but doesn't want to share his key... grrr. Even though it can be installed on up to 10 PC's. I've even been subscribed to MSDN.

So here I am! It's a cosmo telepathic or something.. heh

I remember that one thread that people started asking where am I.. so Mike told me that.. and I stoped by for a visit, and they were surprised to see me suddenly there after they talked about me without me really knowing.
But that's really off-topic.

Back on topic.
Yes, you most likely need to install all your programs and everything for them to enter the registry. I don't think they have or will have a feature like that that transfers your installed programs too. Tough Windwos XP settings have a transfer feature but currently to other XP systems. It might actually be a good idea to make it compatible with the new Vista.

They do have an "Upgrade option" that transfers your programs but I wouldn't use it. It's known to be very buggy.

Thats a no to me, but when you do recieve your code keep us covered with how it works out. Im very curious if i should end up picking it up or just sticking with my good ole XP for gaming. I dont want to criple my ability to play game due to a extremely bugg OS. Btw IM BACK

I tried Vista on a friends PC. Wasn't all that it was hyped up to be.
I also hated the new look. I think I'll just keep to my XP with WindowBlinds.

I'll end up switching to vista eventually. Dual booting Vista and Ubuntu probably. I still need windows for video editing and stuff.

I'm going straight to Vista when it comes out. Infact, I heard it was coming out in a few weeks to MSDN Subscribers?
