I'm trying to set the camera height for C&C Generals on my 2560x1600 monitor using Windows 8.

I figured that you need to extract the .ini files in the INI.big file.

I did that, but no changes I make to the .ini files have any effect.

Everything is still controlled by Options.ini in my documents folder.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

File: Data/INI/GameData.ini
(has to be extracted to those folders in generals/ZH directory)
look for these:
CameraPitch = 37.5
CameraYaw = 0.0
CameraHeight = 232.0
MaxCameraHeight = 310.0
MinCameraHeight = 120.0
I assume you already run the game at 2560x1600 by editing options.ini

And yet, there is no difference.

Also, the GameData.ini file has parameters for resolution in it, as well.

I set those to 1920x1200 so I could tell if it takes effect, but it's still 2560x1600.

The game is unplayable without the camera height, so I don't know what to do..

And just to clarify, I'm playing Generals, not Zero Hour.

Why would you change camera height like this anyway? Just wondering.

Anyway, I don't think this is something that should be changed like this to begin with, you can switch around camera height, angles, etc, with scripting in a map. Though the player can always reset the camera by pressing the mousewheel.
Any old friends still on here can add me on discord @jcdenton2187. I'm far more likely to respond there.

I tried Gentool but it only allows you to change it in a replay, which doesn't help me at all.

But the real question is why don't the .ini files work?

It works fine for me in bothe generals and zh when I change the gamedata.ini
Have ytou put the file in the correct place it should be in data/ini

Oh... I see. I never knew that, huh.

In a map, you can script the camera to change its zoom level to whatever you want, but if the player zooms in at all he can't change it back to the extra-far zoom or anything.

I would check the file location like Klingon said. if they're in the wrong directory, they do nothing.

How can it be that GameData.ini and Options.ini both have parameters for resolution in them? Which one takes precedence?

At this point, GameData.ini does nothing.

@Klingon, can you post the code which you used? So, he will see the right way to do it 😉

I've downloaded other people's GameData.ini files and they also had no effect.

What is the FULL directory you are putting these files in?

And what operating system are you using?

The file location is fine
If all you have done is change the numbers in gamedata it should work
Try it without options and see what happens
