I've just finished my first map on Generals' World Builder, and I cannot get it to show up in-game for anything.

The map's name is "wartorncity" and within C:\Users\Devon\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Data\Maps\wartorncity I have wartorncity.map and wartorncity_art.tga. I don't see what's wrong. And yes I'm looking in the "Unofficial Maps" tab when starting a game.

Any help?

I had same problem last year, just can't remember how i fixed it.
Have you ever added an unnoficial map to your list? if yes then....try zip the map file, i don't think it will work but until i remember what i did last time, thats it.
"The Only Way To Have Peace is Prepare for War" <---I forgot who said this...
"Lasers make superior weapons!" <--- Townes
"Laser crusader ready for engagement" <--- Laser Crusader Tank
"Tactical lasers online" <--- Avenger Support Venhice
"Storm climbed mountain" <--- Pathfinder Elite Infantry
"Ready for covert mission" <--- Stealth Fighter Tactical Support

are you sure that you have no bad character in the map name e.G. a "."?

that will prevent them from showing up too.. but the name wartorncity should of course work.....

also if your map is an edited official map out of the Maps.big then they wont show up either.

Sadly I can. Everything that should be there is there. All my saves, screenies, and even custom maps that I've gotten from online play. Mine is just wanting to act weird for whatever reason. And and, I've played plenty of Skirmish games.

your .tga file really has to be named wartorncity_art.tga and not just wartorncity.tga?

is it really like that in generals?

I saw a couple of different tutorials about that said that. I've tried both .tga and _art.tga. Still no luck.

Did you name the map under Edit Map Setting with world builder? If so remove the name.

In fact I did have a name there. Removed it and tried again (God I thought it would work this time) but no luck.

Can you upload the map using the forum interface by clicking the box that says "Attach files to this post?", then uploading the file after clicking Post?

I will note, when making a map with WB you don't add a name under settings and you use the "Save As" link and name your map. You don't modify file names within the folder that is created for the map. These names must match, so if you have done some editing, re-save the map, then double check that files match folder name.

You might also try moving the MapCache.ini file found in your maps folder to your desktop temporaily (so you can put it back if needed) then launch the game. My thought is that the game will re-create the file based on the maps if finds in this folder. Of course if this doesn't work you can move that file back, but I'm thinking maybe this file needs to be reset. You can also open this file with notepad and scroll down till you see the map name, note the pathway and name will be stretched out. If you find it, look for "isOfficial = no". If it says "isOfficial = yes" change it to "isOfficial = no".

That's all I can think of. Good luck.

Edit: How do I extend my border? The bold blue line shown after Ctrl+I is hit. It turns out my map has been showing up all along but only in multiplayer, not skirmish. Only problem is the outer edges of the map are cut off. Tried the Border Tool but that didn't let me change anything really.

The blue map boundary line is changed with or when you re-size the map. Use the border tool to move the default orange active border so it matches the map boundary line. IF it's just a matter of you not realizing you were creating outside the the line, you should add twice the current border size to the map size.

EDIT: Sorry to say, but you should start over. Your map is 100x100, which is the recommended size for each players base. I would say start over with a map of say 150 by 300 to allow the water and bridges between each base and have each base take up a good portion of their side of the river.

Wow, really? That was the size of the map when I opened up WorldBuilder. I'll start over though, no biggie. Thanks a lot.

also devon make sure, that everything is within the ORANGE border! the blue thing is the water polygon and no border!

if you dont see the orange border then do View -> Show Map Boundaries
