Okay, so... just for the heck of it, I wanted to see how it works to make a map using the Worldbuilder. I used the wonderful tutorial on this site as my guide, as well as some other online resources. I decided I wanted to make a map that is 2vs2 and somehow makes the game a bit more difficult to win and last a little longer, without hampering the player in an irritating manner.

To slow the building of armies a little, I placed ore nodes a bit further away than is usually common in Red Alert 3. I also turned the main connection between the two sides into an easily destroyable bridge, which makes moving large groups of units over it dangerous. There are two alternative connections in the northwest and southeast, but moving large armies across takes a little bit longer there.

I put a small village near each starting point, with some houses that can greatly help with defense, especially in the beginning of the game.

Some feedback would be greatly appreciated. I'm curious to see what people think of the gameplay and of the design/aesthetics of the map. Remember, this is my first attempt, so be kind. 🙂

Hi Jan..

Well here's a bit of feedback for you. 😄

For a first attempt your map is quite good. I checked it out in WB only and have not actually played a game on it.

Good points I spotted were..
Nice use of texture palette and blending.
Looks like you tried the terrain smoothing tools in the riverbed and around the ramps.. looks ok.
Also good use of Mound+Dig to create a few small hills

The map is quite a small one (I suspect it's because it is a first try) so there isn't very much else in there to comment on..

Things you need to look at:
Bridges need to be set higher, either by setting your initial terrain level high (if you decide that you are using bridges at the design stages) or by creating a raised ramp at either end. At the moment in your map, Naval traffic cannot pass beneath.

Experiment more with Cliff Objects, rather than texture on a raised terrain area.. there are some nice effects to be had, with a little patience.

Similarly, with your roads.. try a few Road Objects.

Using 2 different types of "drawn" road adjacent to each other, doesn't really work either, you tend to get overspill between them and sometimes corruption.

Your "village" could be made to look a bit more realistic, perhaps with some fences, shrubs, make a yard for the buildings here and there.

Also make sure that you keep sufficient flat area in your map around the areas where the players have their starting bases. You may find in your map that there isn't room for a full base.. particularly if you have made the terrain uneven..

Over all I like your map. It's a very good first attempt, showing an understanding of some of the tools you have used.. Well done.. good job.👍 😁
