I bought a new laptop a couple of months ago, I tried to run Red Alert 2 on my laptop just now.. I don't know why is the game running very slow in the game menu but not in the game? The whole screen get stuck.. I tried to click anything, it doesn't responds unless I click "Alt + Tab" to get out from the game to desktop and go back to the game again.. Every buttons, every words I typed, I will have to do like this.. What should I do? Is it the game does not support fast computer or anything?
My laptop Specification: Acer, Windows 7, Inter Core i5-2410M 2.3GHz Intel HD Grpahics 300, 818MB 4GB DDR3 Memory 500GB HDD
My laptop is running very smoothly with Red Alert 3 & Red Alert 3 Uprising in "Very High Graphics", but I don't know why this happen with my Red Alert 2.. ==

I think there could really be a "string error": That means that there could be an error concerning the install path. Try to re-install the game and then try to run it. As far as mine is concerned, it worked.

Howdy,
I'm not very tech savvy, but I'm able to use my laptop effectively. However I still do have a problem. Every time I've downloaded RA2 or 3, I always end up getting the String Failure. What does it mean and how do I resolve this?
I did try the method that was posted, however that didn't solve anything. I've got a Dell XPS M1330, Windows 7 32-bit, 4GB RAM and plenty of storage space.
I had the game before and it worked fine, but after I formatted my computer and re-installed it, wouldn't work.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hey BoneZ, Try installing the official patch 1,006 after having downloaded it from there: http://planetcnc.gamespy...Alert2.Detail&id=111That's just a suggestion, I haven't tested it yet. Possibly a solution to your problem. Best regards, Johnny1984 Edited by user Monday, November 14, 2011 12:34:02 AM(UTC)

@ bonez : I will now try to find a solution for Red Alert 3. Maybe the 1,12 patch will help. It is being hosted on this website: http://www.cnclabs.com/d...oads/details.aspx?id=962Edited by user Monday, November 14, 2011 1:01:53 AM(UTC)

Another hint I found on the internet was checking the "Run it as Administrator" box in the properties / compatibility settings, which can be opened by right-clicking on the Red Alert 2 / Red Alert 3 Icon. Have a try ! It just can work ! Edited by user Monday, November 14, 2011 1:17:37 AM(UTC)

I'm not sure if anyone can help but I'm running Windows 7 and I've installed The First Decade without any snags thus far. Everything plays fine except for Yuri's Revenge. I get a deny/allow window that pops up and asks if I'd like to allow this "unknown publisher" to make changes to my computer. If I allow, the screen goes dark, the mouse pointer changes shape, it stays that way for 5 or 6 seconds then pops back to my desktop and the selection screen of First Decade as if nothing happened. I tried the security and compatibility changes and I got nothing. Any advice guys?

Go to Start -> Search -> type "firewall" -> press enter - > Find it in the list, if you do not -> press "Allow another program...". |

Negative, same results. The catch is it isn't RA2 it's just Yuri's Revenge. RA2 works perfectly fine. So...it's an interesting problem to say the least. Edited by moderator Tuesday, February 7, 2012 6:54:22 PM(UTC)

Well I have no idea then... When you get the allow/deny sign, try to tab around and see if you can get the game up anyways (ALT+Tab(the one over caps lock)). |

Yeah, my only next option is perhaps its a faulty disc. So I'm just going to return it and get a replacement. See if that works, the alt+tab didn't do any good either. Thanks for all your ideas man, I appreciate it.

I have had this problem for a while myself and could not figure it out up until now.
Step 1: Find the RA2.exe/RA2MD.exe in the games' folders.
Step 2: Right click on either one, and select properties. Navigate to the security tab, and give "Users" full permission by clicking edit and then clicking the full control box under allow.
Step 3: Click the compatability tab, and click the box by "Run this program as an administrator" under the "Privelege Level" area.
Step 4: Run the game and enjoy! I hope this has helped you out somehow. still not working for me i have ultimate collection (orgin) and win 8 any one know what to do

Right I think I v sort of solved the problem after trying all of the above.
Anyone with wondows 7 8
Might work with older windows versions,
So you've got your main account default to admin, tried today creating another separate account on same computer, and thus setting it to standard mode instead of admin, lifted the restrictions and hey presto, both tiberium sun/firestorm work ish and RA2 also works but running very slow, main screen works fast.
As for TSUN/firestorm title screen ok until u select something and then dosent go on to next screen, skirmish seemed to have worked with a guess of something magical..
So hope this helps,
