red alert 2 and yuri play no cinematic and cant see menu options

i have the First Decade, all the other games work fine but RA2 and yuri don't play the video of their cinematics(can hear them fine) and the menus only display their backgrounds but not the choices, the game itself works fine if you know where the right choices show up. any thoughts? its fully updated and i'm running as administrator with xp sp 2 compat on

I don't have the yuri version but I accidently hit the volume button one day when mashing keys. It's when ever you force something onto the screen it loads for little while. It worked fine one day when I didn't have it plugged in (laptop).
