So, i've gotten all the various games of The First Decade pack to work on my computer.
Mine is quad core, 6GB ram, Intel HD Graphics 3000 running Windows 7.
Some of these are set like this by default.
If i say to run an EXE, then the game probably won't work from TFD launcher menu.
Here's how i did it;
===========================================================================
Command And ConquerRun C&C95.EXE set to Windows 95 compatibility mode, 256 colors,
Disable visual themes
Red Alert[looks like alot of work, but it's not.]
Run RA95.EXE, Windows 95 compatibility mode, Run as Administrator, kill Explorer.exe
You can find Explorer.exe by going to the task manager and looking under Processes. Right click it and it will go away. Explorer is what makes all the stuff on your desktop appear, so while it's gone you wont have the start menu or any icons, that sort of thing. Restart Explorer by going into task manager, Applications, New Task, and type in Explorer.exe
i'll also attach a file that when used will kill explorer, start red alert, then restart explorer when you quit red alert. Sorta like a shortcut on steroids.
Tibierium Sun[Also not too much work]
Run Game.exe,Windows 98 compatibility mode,Run as Administrator.
To fix menu graphics issues you have to go to display and add a second display. Just set it as a duplicate. It will say it dosn't detect another display, tell it to connect anyways. You'll probably want to remove this extra display after playing though because it can make your computer act weird visually sometimes, like flickering a couple of times if you close/open the screen. i'll see if i can't make a file that does this, similar to my Red Alert file.
RenegadeWorked out of the box for me.
Red Alert 2 +
Yuri's RevengeRun RA2.exe or RA2MD.exe for yuri's revenge, Windows 98 compatibility mode, Run as Administrator.
Also needs a second display same as above.
Generals +
Generals Zero Hour[Wrong section, but i want it all in the same post:/]
run generals.exe, Windows Vista SP2 compatibility mode,Run as Administrator
Edit; Generals won't work for windows 10 due to stuff being removed in windows 10
related to checking for the disk. To get Generals and ZH working you need a no-CD .EXE
which can be found here-
http://www.gamecopyworld.eu/games/gcw.php These are legal.
Edit 2; New hard drive, this time i also needed one of the options.ini files out there.
===========================================================================
The file i attached to this post is a .bat file, short for batch. You can edit it in Notepad, and you might want to look in it just to make sure the path to Red Alert is correct.
This is what is written in the batch file;
Code:taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
C:\"Program Files (x86)"\"EA Games"\"Command & Conquer The First Decade"\"Command & Conquer Red Alert(tm)"\"ra95.exe"
start explorer.exe
The first line kills Explorer, second line starts Red Alert, third restarts Explorer.
If you've moved icons since turning on your computer, they won't stay put if you kill Explorer
because Explorer saves the icon locations when your computer shuts down.
So don't reorganize your desktop and then play Red Alert, lol.
Also, if you don't like the .bat file's icon, you can make a shortcut that goes to it and change the shortcut's icon.
Edit; Alternative fix for Command and Conquer and Red Alert can be found in reply 5.
Thanks Tore!
