im running generals on 800 x 600 and the gameplay screen is just too close to the ground , , 1024 x 768 isnt any better either

what do you guys set your resolution too

ive tried changing my options.ini file but i get the error

*make sure you have directx 8.1 or higher installed, also verify that your video card meets the minimum requirements*

thanks

I'd just run it according to whatever the computer's native resolution is. Just be careful when changing the resolutions in the options.ini file; having a resolution that exceeds what your computer is capable of will produce that error.

thanks for your reply krit , , i installed gentool and it gave me an option off 2 extra resolutions to use (in the options menu) , , im currently using 1280x768 which is the highest one i can choose , , ive taken 2 screen shots too show the gameplay and see what you guys think

id like to try the widescreen option

i was using 800x600 it seems to scroll more smoother using that resoultion whilst playing the game

thanks again , , ill still be looking forward to some off your comments like eg. what resolution you experts use which is the best for game play , , and how id choose widescreen (i couldnt see an option using widescreen) ive tried changing the options.ini file 'but' i still get an error

someone in this thread (below)
http://www.gamereplays.o...dex.php?showtopic=682218
says he/she plays in 1920*1200 and it OWNS

id like to try 1920x1200 but i dont know how to do it

thanks

Maximum resolution is not something you can choose, but is already predetermined by your graphics system. Check the display options in your computer's control panel to find out what is the optimal resolution. For instance, my system only supports up to 1600x900. Any higher resolution than that would crash the game before I can even start it.

And on your particular issue, what you may want to look for is a zoom mod. These mods changes the ranges of the distance between the terrain in the game and the camera. This could allow you to see much more of the game without having to change your game display resolutions.

if you dont want to download the file i can tell you the contents

camerazoom is the directory , , data is the sub-directory , , camera-zoom.big is a file
in the data directory there is another sub directory called INI , , in INI directory there is a file called gamedata

hopefully yous can understand this , ,

for those off you that think i am going to cheat , , this is very wrong , ,

im only going to use this mod in substitue for the resoultion issue , , n i will only zoom out to a position to where i feel comfortable in playing the game (no more than that) , ,

thanks

The contents of the Camera Zoom folder should be placed inside the main game directory in the C:\ drive (actual location depends on where you actually installed the game)

When you right click on the generals shortcut, you see that target file that it tries to reach. In my case: "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour\generals.exe". After "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour\generals.exe" put a space and add -quickstart to skip the intro, and -xres 1920 -yres 1080 to change the resolution to whatever you want. I use 1920 x 1080 since that's my monitors properties.
