installing any CC3 or RA3 mod, add-ons, maps, etc anything for the Steam versions of these is always tricky and requires some minor hacking skills...

i succeeded in installing TheRedAlert for Steam RA3 on a WindowsXP-sp3 machine; great!

however that machine is low end and i need to install same way on my high-end machine which is Windows7-proffesional

and here can not get it to work; did same hack as for the xp... a difference with Win7 is that the various user folders are in different and multiple locations unlike the WinXP... who knows...

was wondering if anyone or the authors would be able to shed a light on this matter and perhaps give me a hint of what i need to do...

the thing is playing it on low end machine is just no feasible... i have to set all the graphics to lowest settings which is big loss...

thanks

It was asked so often. It doesn't matter which windows you use. In Steam rightclick the game in the library -> "Properties" -> tab "General" -> click on "set launch options..." and add the following in there:

-modconfig "C:\path\to\the\modname_modversion.skudef"

You have to adjust the path to the location where you extracted the mod to. For Steam it can be in any folder you want.

I tested it on Steam too and it also works with the -ui parameter and then launching the mod via Game Browser when the mod folder is located in C:\Users\[User]\Documents\Red Alert 3\Mods

the steam version does not have that game browser manager i have seen references to... but i have succeeded in hacking things in the past by tweaking the config.txt and the skudef files...
anyway that did not work in this case,

however the suggestion with the -modconfig cmd line flag did work... great!

so thank you for the tip and the assistance here...

I own the steam version of RA3 and it has the Game Browser. As the disc version -ui opens up the control center where the Game Browser button is.

I have red alert 3 for steam and i'm having trouble getting the mod to run.

When I create a shortcut and add -ui to the end to bring up the launcher and run the mod using the Game Browser the game just fails to launch and the launcher just resets.

When I tried to set the launch options in steam I followed the instructions that gonarch posted but the game just launched as normal. I double checked to make sure the file path was correct but I can't seem to get the mod to launch.

Anybody have any idea what I may have done wrong?

My mod folder is in the Red Alert 3 folder in My documents if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

Put -ui into the launch options.
