Red Alert 3 Walkthrough at Carl's Guides

Carl of Carl's Guides has released his in-depth walkthrough for Commad & Conquer: Red Alert 3. The walkthrough covers all missions -- Soviet, Allied, and Imperial -- complete with screenshots. Generals World has worked with Carl previously -- he kindly provided us with our Generals Walkthrough -- so we know this guide is good stuff.

Here's a quote:

When you first start, build two dojo cores, then two generator cores. Once the generators are online make two refinery cores. During this make two engineers to capture the oil derricks to the east and south. Make ten tankbuster units from each of your dojos to destroy the houses and pick up more cash crates. It seems like a lot, but they'll come in handy later.

When the houses are clear, place a mecha bay core. Make four mecha tengus to defend your base from infantry. While all this is happening, send three of your tankbusters north to the house next to the seaport. Snipe the three power plants from there and bring their power offline. Once your tankbusters are done, send them all north and walk into the base. Kill the peacekeepers but don't destroy the turrets. Destroy the two power plants and prospector (which will try to crush you). Once the power plants are down you'll be free to romp the joint and destroy everything except the construction yard. Work on twelve engineers back at your base during this.

If you haven't beaten the singleplayer campaigns yet, we recommend you check out the entire Red Alert 3 Walkthrough at Carl's Guides.

RA3 Patch v1.06 and KW Patch v1.02

Two patches in one day -- for two different games -- must be some kind of record for Command & Conquer.

First up is patch v1.06 for Red Alert 3, which was previously released in public beta form and contains two changes:

· Revamped the Automatch system to improve reliability and the speed at which players are matched.
· Fixed an exploit with the Soviet Crane where structures could be built for free under low power.

You can download this patch by using the link below, or by using the in-game auto-updater.

Download: Red Alert 3 Patch v1.06 English (143 MB)

Next is the long-awaited patch v1.02 for Kane's Wrath, which includes many bug fixes and a number of balancing changes.  You can similarly download the Kane's Wrath patch by using the in-game auto-updater or the link below.

Maps and Downloads Now on C&C Labs

As part of our ongoing effort to expand our coverage of the Command & Conquer franchise, we have now moved all of our downloads to our sister-site, C&C Labs. This includes all of the fan-created maps we host.

C&C Labs Maps UI

The biggest improvement that accompanies this change is the launch of our improved interface for finding and downloading C&C maps. Our maps download pages now allow you to filter maps based on a number of common "tags" that describe them -- such as "detailed," "money map," or "well-balanced." Visitors can rate and tag maps themselves, which in turn helps other visitors more quickly find the maps they want.

For example: Looking for a good, detailed 2-player Tiberium Wars map? The filter shown to the right should help you out.

We hope this change will help players spend less time testing out new maps, only to decide they never want to play on them again, and more time playing on great, quality maps they enjoy.

We have also altered our map submission page to be a more streamlined wizard. There some behind-the-scenes improvements we've made as well which will help us review the maps you submit and get back to you quicker.

On a related note, we're now accepting Red Alert 3 map submissions.

If anyone has any questions, comments, or suggestions related to these changes, please feel free to post in our forums.

New Red Alert 3 Patch and Worldbuilder

EA has released patch 1.05 for Red Alert 3 today, with some balance fixes. More importantly, they also released the Worldbuilder, a tool which allows you to create your own Red Alert 3 battlefields. Once you create them, send them to us at maps@cncgeneralsworld.com and if they're good enough, we'll host them so that other fans can enjoy them.

Download the patch throught the in-game auto-updater or from EA's site and the Worldbuilder here. I've read some things about the Worldbuilder not working well with foreign versions of the game, but that's unconfirmed as of now.

Tiberium Wars Advanced 1.5 Released

For those of you who want to play some C&C 3, Tiberium Wars Advanced, a mod which improves the original game by adding new features, has released its 1.5 version. The mod aims to slow down the pace of play slightly, add new (including some from Tiberian Sun) units into the mix and reduce unit spam with an enhanced balancing system. Some of their art looks quite good, too, so check it out if you want to get back into the C&C 3 swing of things.
