All-Stars Looking for Mission Maker

The All-Stars mod is looking for a talented mission maker. We are nearing the final stages in making the mod, and a single-player campaign is one of our last unfulfilled goals. The mission maker would be responsible for taking the team's ideas for the missions and using them to come up with a design for the mission that would make it both challenging and fun to play. The mission maker would then create the actual mission. Any candidate must be willing to work and contribute to a fun modding environment. To apply, send an e-mail to Blbpaws@cncgeneralsworld.com or post in our forums.

Delphi's Thoughts on CNC for a portable

The famed Chris Rubyor, or Delphi, now at Petroglyph Studios said the following here about the possibility of CNC winding up on a portable:
Chances are it will be PSP, since EA and Sony have such a good relationship. Also it will more than likely be Generals since it was using a 3D engine and would be the easiest to port. Before Westwood was crushed into oblivion by EA, we did have the Generals engine running on a PS2. =) It wasn't pretty though.
Ehh!
I personally find it interesting that Westwood would consider making a port of CNC to a console. As a former player of CNC on the PlayStation, I can tell you that it plays much better on a PC. Still, we'll see what happens.

New Poll and Poll Results

A certain webmaster told me we could use a poll change, so here we go. First, the results from the last poll:

EA has been silent for a while...this means that...
...RA3 has been officially canceled
24
42%
...RA3 is up in the air in an early development stage
11
19%
...RA3 is waiting for the return of Mark Skaggs
7
12%
...RA3 is being developed, and we'll see a lot more soon!
14
25%

Total Votes: 56

As for my comment on RA3, I think it is in limbo, but that we will get an official annoucement before the end of summer, likely at the end of August. I expect the game itself to come sometime early next year. Of course, this is speculation, so don't think I have some inside source. Anyway, the current poll deals with the idea of EA returning a CNC game to a console or porting it to a handheld. I'm intertested as to what you all think.

Possible, and Improbable, Release Date Info

While surfing the web today, I came across a page from 1up.com about Red Alert 3. As I wasn't looking for Red Alert 3 stuff, I was quite surprised. What surprised me more was that, on this page, there was a release date, and a specific one at that:
Release Date: 10/12/2005
Personally, I don't know what to think. I really don't think it will be done by then, but, who knows? Maybe something is happening. Some development is of course better than none at all.

Not Generals, But For Gamers: Nexuiz

I just wanted to let everyone know about a little game that a friend told me about. It's called Nexuiz . Here's a breif description:
After many years of development, Nexuiz has been released to the public! Nexuiz is a fast-paced, chaotic, and intense multiplayer first person shooter, focused on providing basic, old style deathmatch. The 1.0 release weighs in at 161MB, and includes 17 maps, 28 playable characters, and 10 music tracks. It is cross-platform, and supports Windows and Linux (x86 and x86_64), with Mac support coming soon!

It's a lot like Unreal Tournament. If you enjoy first person shooters, you'll like this. You can get it here.

Side note: The music in the game is somewhat lacking. To change it, go into the data folder and rename the .pk3 file to .zip then open it with WinRar. Inside the sounds folder there is a folder for cd tracks. Just replace the track00x.ogg files with mp3's you've converted to ogg (You can use Audacity).

Open Map Competition Reminder

This is a reminder for anyone interested in participating in the third Open Map Competition that there is a little over a month left for you to submit your map. For those who are unaware:
Open Map Competition 3 is a C&C community world wide mapping contest for all fans of Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2 and Generals. It is a 3 in one mapping competition, since the 3 games are independent. Mappers can submit one entry per game until the last minute of July 18th, 2005 on Greenwich Time Zone. It's a nice oportunity to get your mapping skills recognized by the C&C community.
The first place winners for each game (Generals, Red Alert 2, and Tiberian Sun) will receive a community-sponsored prize. Second and third place winners may receive prizes as well depending on the amount of resources available to the Open Map Competition. Prizes will be provided by sponsoring community fansites, fan donations, and Electronic Arts. For more information on the competition's prizes, visit the OMC: Prizes page. Remember: you have until July 18th to submit your map!

CNC For PSP?!

Planet CNC is reporting a number of things. First, Cypher says he saw a number of ads linking the possibility of a console RTS to BFME. Second, he has confirmed what many have long expected: Mark Skaggs is gone from EA. Third, he reiterates that Louis Castle, one of the original Westwoodians, implied that a CNC is being worked on. Fourth, and most news-worthy, he passes on a link from Gamespy: here. I'll pass on the information from the page:
Based on the classic Command & Conquer and Command & Conquer: Red Alert releases, the strategy series deploys into the handheld arena with an interface customized for portable play.

Game Info
Developer: Westwood Studios
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Genre: Strategy
Release Date: TBA 2005
Yes. You read that right. Westwood Studios is listed as the developer....After so long, is there now a resuming flicker of hope?

Large Roundup

Few tidbits from the last few days, complete with pictures:
  • CNC DEN has a very good drawing by Mikael. See it below.
  • Cold War Crisis has released two new renders. The one below is the EF-111 Raven.
  • The C&C Auraxis Mod (C&C: Generals) is looking for a skinner. See some of their work here and e-mail Dj2Stalker@aol.com if you're interested.
  • Planet CNC's Photoshop Aaron contest has ended. HeXetic, the administrator of the contest, had the following comments:
With a couple of dozen submissions sent in by about a dozen people, the "Photoshop Aaron" contest is now closed and I will going over the entries - possibly with Aaron's help - presently in order to determine who will be Teh Winar. Thanks to all who sent in entries!
  • Operation: Restore Justice has been interviewed by a German website, CNC Inside. There are two versions of the interview, one in English and one in German.
  • CNCNZ announces that they are in the planning stages for their 10 year celebration of the release of CNC: Tiberian Dawn. I hope and expect that eventually CNC Community, the community's fansite, will take over planning for the celebration. Good to know CNC has lasted so long...now it's time to begin the second ten years, this time under EA.
