Results: First Generals World Tournament May 29th

Congratulations Cdlord!! Cdlord has won the first Generals World tournament! I would like to thank all participants in today's tournament!  A job well done.  The tournament was a 1 vs 1 first round elimination.  Lion won against rlgl81 to start off the tournament, and then cdlord put the smack down on Eowne to make headway for the second round as Massacre crippled the Gimp... (no pun intended) LOL. My first round was a (bye)...easy enough.  In the second round of the tournament I lost to Lion, as cdlord squeezed a win out of Massacre.  On to the final round: Cdlord vs Lion.  Cdlord dominates in this match as he secures many supply docks allowing him a sure win!  Want more action?  Then visit Generals World's new Zero Hour Replays downloads section to download and watch the actual replays.

To watch replays, download the .zip file and extract the .rep file out of it, placing the .rep file in your Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour\Replays folder (located under your My Documents folder).

Thanks again to those who participated!  I will be scheduling another tournament for June 12th, which is 2 weeks away, so start practicing boys!! (More info to come)

File Updates @ CNCNZ

CNCNZ has recently added a few new files to their downloads section.
Here's the latest goodies available over there:

For Red Alert 2 and Tiberian Sun modders out there, there's new versions of two now open source applications, Voxel Viewer v1.2, and Palette Editor v1.1.

There's also a new Zero Hour mod, the New Tech Mod, that has been added.  The mod features changes "such as scaled down infantry sizes to make them appear realistic on the battlefield, a new Generals ranking points system, all new Armageddon weapons, new 'military' colours for team selection," and some changes to each side in Zero Hour.

And for those of you out there who still play Red Alert, there's also a Red Alert World War 3 mod now available for download.

Advanced AI Mod v0.5 for Zero Hour

Zero Hour Advanced AI ModThe latest version of the Advanced AI Mod has now been released! Created by Generals World Forums member Lion, it's currently in version 0.5 beta. Please take note that this is a beta release, and thus it may contain bugs.
The Advanced AI Mod for Zero Hour intends to, in short, make the computer players "smarter." This is done by fixing bugs and by adding new strategies for each General. At the same time, the amount the AI "cheats" is actually being reduced, overall! The computer players now get less extra money in the late-game than EA's original AI did, and they're cheating less and less with each version.

NOTE: This mod will only work with Hard opponents in Skirmish. Medium and Easy opponents are for beginners. This mod was created for more advanced players who want an extra challenge or for those players who can't or won't play online.

Interested? Are you up for the challenge? Then download the Advanced AI Mod here!

Also, if you happen to find any bugs in the mod and would like to report them, please do so in Advanced AI Mod Forum. You can post comments and suggestions there as well! The mod is in need of beta testers as well, so if you would like to help beta test it in between release versions, then head on over to this forum topic here.

Submit Map Script Fixed

It turns out that our "Submit a Map" script has been broken ever since our server move a couple months ago!  Luckily a Generals World visitor finally contacted me about it.  The problem has now been fixed.

If you have any maps you would like to submit to be posted on Generals World for either the original Generals or Zero Hour, please visit the Submit a Map page.

Thanks goes out to Jack for notifying me about the bug!

Maps, Mods, and Replays

Well, as usual CNCDen has several new replays and something called a shell map. For those of you who don't know what a Shell map is, It's the mission/map that is played out by the computer in the background of the main menu. So for all of you who would like to open your main menu of ZH and watch this sweet new shell map full of action, head on over to the CNCDen mainpage and pick it up. Also as stated before, CNCDen has some new replays up. Replays are great entertainment and alot of times can give you ideas for tactics you'd never thought of before. Replays are a great way to become better at Generals/ZH or any game for that matter. Be sure to head on over there and pick em up. Amazingly enough, I happened to miss the fact that 2 days ago a few maps were put out by CNCDen as well. They have one map and an Online map pack. Be sure to head on over and pick them up on their frontpage. As for the community mods, "An Act Of War" posted a TON of new screens of lots of new units/structures and even some gens powers in action. =) Also, "Call to Arms" released some new screens of the menus. It really looks good so be sure to head over to the Call to Arms site and check 'em out. And finally, last but not least, "Blitzkrieg 2" put out some new screens of the Soviet Yak-9. It really looks sweet so head to their site to check it out. Well, that's it for now, but keep checking back as progress is always being made on both the All-Stars Mod and also the Advanced AI Mod!

CNC World Offline

Cabal of CNC World has asked us to inform you that CNC World will be offline for a few weeks due to exams and major upcoming site updates.

During their downtime they will be revising their old content and adding lots of new content -- about 100 new pages!  They will also begin using a new layout and content management system.  Their scheduled re-launch date is June 11, although this is subject to change.

In the meantime, they could use some new staff members to help out on the site, particularly news updaters and creative staff members to create skins and wallpapers.  If you're interested, be sure to pay them at visit!

Advanced AI Mod v0.4 beta Released!

Lion has been hard at work on his Advanced AI Mod, and has now released beta version 0.4!  This latest edition features changes to the Demolition General.  It also includes some further updates to the Super Weapons General and the Infantry General!  If you're interested in a challenge, be sure to check it out -- you'll defnitely be impressed!
This mod was made because the AI in Generals is too easy.  It uses predictable tactics, builds mediocre bases and normally has $50k in bank.  Beating 7 computer AIs on Hard shouldn't be possible - but it is.  This mod is intended to change that.

NOTE: This mod will only work with Hard opponents.  Medium and Easy opponents are for beginners.  This mod was created for more advanced players who want an extra challenge or for those who can't or won't play online.
Are you up for the challenge?  Download the latest version here!

New Features Section

Here on Generals World we now have a new "Features" section that you may have noticed.  It's at the top of the home page, on the right side of the Generals World News Wire "welcome message."

Features currently include the recently announced CnC All Stars mod for Zero Hour and the already released Real Threat mod.

Also included, however, is a brand new feature!  This feature is the Advanced AI Mod, currently in beta version 0.3, which aims to make the "Hard" computer players in Zero Hour much more difficult.  Currently only the Super Weapons General and the Infantry General have been modified, but eventually the mod will be extended to cover all of the Generals.

We also have a new screenshots gallery section for the Advanced AI Mod, featuring some impressive pictures that show you just how much harder the modified AI is.  You can view those screenshots on this page here.  If you're interested in downloading the mod or learning more about it, be sure to visit the mod's page here.

Zero Hour Advanced AI Mod: In Development

We've got an interesting new feature here at Generals World that is currently under development.  Generals World Forums member Lion has been hard at work creating an Advanced AI Mod for Zero Hour.  Now, beta version 0.1 of the mod is available for download!  Currently only the AI for the Super Weapons General has been altered, but it is now much tougher than it was before.
This mod was made because the AI in Generals is too easy.  It uses predictable tactics, builds mediocre bases and normally has $50k in bank.  Beating 7 computer AIs on Hard shouldn't be possible - but it is.  This mod is intended to change that.
For more details about the mod and its changes, head to the Advanced AI Mod page on Generals World here!  The author is always looking for comments, suggestions, and usually testers, so be sure to stop by the Generals World Forums if you're interested in helping out.

Community and Mod News Roundup

There's a lot of news in the way of mods recently, so I'm feeding all of the latest to you in one big spoonful.

First of all, I'd of course like to mention that Generals World's in-house mod, CnC: All Stars is in need of staff!  We're especially in need of skinners and AI coders.  If you're talented in either of these aspects, or if you're knowledgable about modding in Generals at all ;) then be sure to fire off an email to Blbpaws@cncgeneralsworld.com saying how you can help.  We'd be glad to have you onboard.  To see our latest work, don't forget to check the screenshots page!

And now, for the news from around the community.
  • Since our last update, the folks over at CNCDEN have released 7 new Zero Hour maps, and one new Zero Hour mission.  Definitely worth checking out.
  • The Imperial Assault mod has released a new screenshot of an AT-AT that may be included in their Star Wars style mod for Generals.
  • CNCDEN has screenshots of a dozen renders sent to Lion by Squire James of The Great War Mod, a World War I total conversion mod for Generals.
  • CNC Matrix has posted some nice new screenshots of a UK Defense turret that will eventually be making its way into their Second Wave mod.
  • ConquerGaming has an interesting new poll up asking "Battle Royal, who wins?"  The choices are: Nod, GDI, Allies, Soviets, Yuri, USA, China, and GLA.  Head on over there to cast your vote!
  • An Act of War, a Generals mod featuring the US (2008) and Iraq, is current in the midst of a screenshots week!  Here's a few of their latest screenshots' thumbnails:

  • The Call to Arms mod has a new screenshot of their UK Level 5 Science general's weapon.

From the Call to Arms website: "This is basically how it works, incase anyones curious. 16 droplets are loaded into a droplet parachute object. When the droplets die (hit the ground) they generate a mine field. The mines last between 100 and 500 ms then detonate. Lots of big explosions."
  • The Blitzkreig 2 Generals (and soon-to-be Zero Hour) mod has had a bunch of updates to their website recently.  They've even been featured in a PC Magazine article!  Head to their site for details!
  • The TrueWar mod, a total conversion mod for CNC Generals, has posted a nice screenshot of their newly-skinned Humvee.  Rather impressive skinning work.
  • The Battletech: The Capellan Solution mod for CnC Generals has entered a new beta stage, v1.25.
Phewf!  As you can see, there's a lot going on in the way of mods here in the CnC community.  Be sure to check back soon, there's more updates to come!

I was just now informed of a bug that prevented people from posting comments to news posts anonymously.  The bug has now been resolved.

If you have a comment that you'd like to leave about a news post here at Generals World, be sure to click the "Comments" link at the bottom right corner of the post.  There, you'll be able to leave your own comment and read other people's comments as well.  It's a great way to interact about the latest news in the CNC community, so try it out!
