Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge Tactics?

Hey
Installed this game today and thought I would play it for old-time-fun. For my surprice, I got bored of it in one hour. (Playing skirmish)
I was just interested in that, are there any other "tactics" to kill the enemy than a regular tank rush or wait-for-the-enemies-money-to-end-and-then-strike-him-with-SW?
I just build up my base fast, build some defence structures. And then tank-rush him or Nuke him. And this seems to be boring (but the most effective) tactic.
I also tried to play different armies like the yuri and so on. But they all seem to be boring. And then water filled maps are so easy... WHY don't the AI ever build Naval units? I won the game with one Boomer from Yuri.
Also the units are so overpowered in this game... I attacked with 3 Apocalypse tanks (just for the action, didn't even want to win). But after one of the Apocalypse tanks got promoted it destroied the whole enemy base, nothing could stop it. It auto-healed and shot 2 ultra heavy shells. Took out a Warfactory in 4 shots. I mean, what's the point in making so powerfull units?
And I hate playing online, it isn't "more fun" to play online. Harder but not much more of the fun part. I played also against Brutal army (for the first time ever). But it was also too easy, no match.
Then if I play against 3-6 Brutal AIs, then I have to tank-rush like hell or build Naval units to kill them. I mean, stopping 6 Nukes are almost impossible. And still, not a fun game.
Please tell me how to get a fun game in Red alert 2, seems hopeless. Are there any balanced mods?

there might be some good mods out there but i dont know any by name, i did play some nice ones in the past. if skrimish is boring then online might be better to play since it would be more of a challenge then the ai which might make it more fun, might be best to play against people you know for that since some online games are no fun at all. |

my favorite mod that I still play from time to time is called C&C Reloaded. It removes all of the armies and adds in "new" ones It modifies the US and gives it some of the other allies powers It modifies Russia and gives it some of the other soviet powers It modifies Yuri and gives him some new units It also adds GDI and NOD with some modifications to the units (no gates :( and the component towers are separate towers) you can find it here: http://reloaded.cncguild.net/forums: http://forums.revora.net/index.php?showforum=76 |

How do I play the mods? I earlier today downloaded 2 mods. In the readme file it says "place it in the RA2 folder". I did that, but I can't see anything new while playing. Where do I put the mod files?

Playing online gives you so many more tactics since you can't always predict what your enemy is going to do. You said you hated it but if you want more variety, online is the place to go. As Firion said, you should play with people you know. I don't mind playing a few games with you if you want. We should probably try to get a group of GW members together. For single-player fun, you should beat the campaigns in hard mode instead of skirmishing. Edited by user Friday, January 5, 2007 8:20:10 PM(UTC)

Some older mods (Most likely for this case seeing how RA2 is kinda old...) Have the mod install directory set for the regular install path but not the first decade install path. |
Email me if you ever need help (edited signature November 6th, 2014) |

I just tried installing it yesterday, no problems here, just extract all of the files into the RA2 folder. For The First Decade users: C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Command & Conquer Red Alert(tm) II\RA2

When downloading the mod I got these files:
ecache03 = MIX File ecache04 = MIX File expandmd03 = MIX File ra2md = CSF File
Where do I put them?
This time I put all of them into:
C:\Program Files\Westwood\RA2
And now I got new Cameos, new working better AI, but I still don't see any new units. :/

Do you have any other expandmdXX files in your RA2 directory, Incia? |
