New The Red Alert Screenshots

Over at The Red Alert on C&C Labs, we've posted up eight new The Red Alert screenshots, featuring many of the classic units and structures you remember from the years ago. It also features the damage states of the structures, a process worked out by Red Alert 3 Mod SDK wizard and artist extraordinaire Tsumetai. You can see four new shots below.

For those who don't know, the mod recreates the classic Red Alert from 1996 in full 3D. Learn more, and see the rest of the media, on the mod's C&C Labs page.

New Red Alert 3 Worldbuilder Tutorial

Want to make a map of RA3 but don't want to wade through EA's hundred-page-plus manual? Have the perfect, cool creation in mind, but not sure of the step by step process of bringing it to life? Think Worldbuilder is out to get you? Our superb mapping expert Gren has created an excellent tutorial for you. It goes step by step through the process of creating a map in Red Alert 3's Worldbuilder, introducing the various tools and then demonstrating how best to use them.

I find the tutorial works very well because it has a case study, a map entitled Island Fortress that you can build yourself along with Gren. There are also a lot of pictures that vividly show you each step required. Even if you've tried Worldbuilder before and been frustrated--trust me, you can't be worse than me in map aesthetics--give it another shot with this tutorial.

Oh, and when you're done, send us your creation. Our reviewers Drummin and Gren, as well as the rest of the staff at C&C Labs and Generals World always love to see--and show--what fans can do. Experiment. Create. Play.

New Infantry Trailer for C&C 3: The Forgotten

At long last, we have another trailer to show you guys from our mod C&C 3: The Forgotten, under development at C&C Labs. It's mostly combat footage, and it shows off all of the infantry in the mod in various in-game elements. We've also updated the Units page with information on all the infantry so you can learn more about what you see in the video. The infantry artwork was done by Tsumetai, Kane Nash, chronosheep, and stygs, and the coding by the indefatigable CommieDog. You can view a low-quality YouTube version below, or download a high-quality version here (56MB). You can see all our other work on our Media page.

Think you'd be an asset to the team? Let us know! We're always looking for talented people, and texture and 2D artists in particular.

New Battlecast Primetime and CNCNZ Roundtable

First off, a new edition of Battlecast Primetime has been released by EA. It doesn't have any news on EA's new project, but it does have quite a bit of replays and commentary from C&C 3, Kane's Wrath, and Red Alert 3. In addition, it features a nice segment on the C&C community that spotlights our very own project, C&C 3: The Forgotten. Check it out when you get a chance.

Second, CNCNZ just posted its Community Roundtable for the month of April. Yours truly took part, and it was modding-only this time, so naturally of great interest to me. We covered six interesting questions, discussing the Red Alert 3 Mod SDK, modding for older games, the learning curve for breaking into modding today, and more. Definitely worth a read if you're at all interested in that part of the community.
