GenEdit2K Is Back!

Morphious has reopened his site and is back to the community.
Here's a bit of the welcome post:
It's good to be back! I figured that it wasn't worth the amount of emails I had pouring in after GE2K closed to just keep it closed....so I did what you guys asked for and reopened.

I'll be accepting mods, maps, skins, etc...a bunch of files for Generals if you guys send them in. You can find our uploader script here! Once files are uploaded I'll get to 'em within two days or so, but it depends on how busy I am.

For now keep those files rollin' so we can have a HUGE map DB and don't forget to go check out the FORUMS where you can get some modding help and just chat with other members of the community.
So go and check out GenEdit2K now.

C&C Generals: Zero Hour Profiles

GameSpy has had an interview with Harvard Bonin, Senior Producer at EALA on Generals and Zero Hour, about the upcomming X-pack.
All the information needed on the USA generals is located HERE pluse a few new pictures.

Here are some details about the new USA Generals,

General Alexis Alexander

General Alexis Alexander A logistics staffer in Okinawa, Alexander attracted the notice of her superiors with her ability to acquire just about anything. Alexander parlayed that ability into a scholarship and a long and distinguished career in the Marines. To protect supply lines during the first GLA conflict, Alexander developed a tiered scheme of defenses that did not allow a single strike on any of her supply columns. While hardly efficient in her use of resources, General Alexander makes defense and resource acquisition priorities in the early phases of conflict. The general's army takes to the offensive only when she has superior offensive firepower that cannot be touched by counterattack.

General Malcolm "Ace" Granger

Malcolm "Ace" Granger The son of an Iowa crop duster, General Malcolm Granger's flying career began at the age of 12, when he borrowed his father's biplane to go to the state fair in Kansas City. As a lieutenant in the Vietnam War, Granger became an ace in a single afternoon, knocking out four MiG-17s over Da Nang. As he moved up the Air Force ranks, Granger earned a reputation for advancing the role of fighting aircraft in the U.S. military. Even-tempered yet uncompromising, Granger has developed novel techniques in fuel management and resource deployment during air superiority operations. Those techniques have been used with success in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other theaters. His squadrons are known for precision execution and a strong will to complete the mission.

General "Pinpoint" Townes

"Pinpoint" Townes An early champion of laser technology in the USA Armed Forces, "Pinpoint" Townes has developed comprehensive offensive and defensive strategies for the 21st century around laser-based weapons. It is only in recent years that powerful lasers became cheap enough and light enough to mount on battlefield weapons, and General Townes has deployed them throughout his forces. This four-star general continues to push the technology envelope in harnessing energy and improving power efficiency, and the Army is counting heavily on him.

Kodak Moment 9.5ish, #10 & #11

More Kodak Moments about Zero Hour.

Kodak Moment 9.5ish

Harvard's Answer:
Dr. Thrax has a Toxin Rebel.
Well it turns out that GLA has more than one answer to enemy infantry. If you chose Dr. Thrax, one of the GLA special generals, you have access to the "Toxin Rebel." Special thanks go out to Breed for is sharp eye and Harvard for answering the email.

Kodak Moment #10
Combat Chinook: In the previous campaigns against the GLA, Chinooks did not fare well. Lacking defenses, the Chinook often was lost behind enemy lines, requiring rescue operations to recover any survivors. The Combat Chinook has side portals to allow passengers to target threats on the ground.

Kodak Moment #11

Harvard's Answer

Battle Bus: Carries bunches of infantry (still balancing number) that fire out of the bus as it moves. It has no weapons of its own and is faster than a tank but slower than a Rocket Buggy. It makes a great support vehicle since it packs a punch…and then turns into a bunker when it blows up. The infantry stay inside when it changes to a bunker but are killed when the bunker is killed. Units can exit and enter this bunker.

Visit CNCUnleashed.ws to see all of the Kodak Moments and more.

CNC Elite Has Closed.

Bill222 and Dunhamzzz have decided to close their site due to lack of updates, staff and files.
Today was the final day of the once great CnC-Elite. We (Bill222 and Dunhamzzz) have decided that it is best to close the site as it falls down a long trail to a bad reputation. As everyone has well noticed , the site has been failing as of late , mostly stemming off a mySQL error we had a few months back that also caused the end of CnC-Forums.

It is a sad day , but the lack of updates , staff and files we have had are among the main reasons for the closing of the once great CnC-Elite.

Visit the site... What's left of it... to see the whole announcment.

Pro:Gen 1.6 Is Here!

Pro:Gen 1.6 is now available for download!

This version includes a number of fixes, tweaks and updates and focuses mainly on improving stability and fixing bugs. The vast majority of mismatch/sync errors have now been resolved, and lagging due to AI actions should be fixed. Note that to use Pro:Gen, you must ensure that you have patched Generals to 1.6.

A full list of changes made from versions 1.1 through to 1.6 can be seen by clicking here. Many thanks go out to Panzerfather whose help has been invaluable in eliminating mismatch and sync errors.

Cheaters, Cheaters, Poo Poo Eaters 2

You might have noticed the "2" on the title of the news post. If you have been here long you might have already realized that this is the 2nd time that I've posted about cheaters in the Generals. The 1st time was about an exploit, and this time it's about somewhat of a solution. Popelina.com is a site that attempting to establish a "black list" of cheaters. It's unclear exactly how far this is going to go, but we will see. They ask that you send an email to milky@popelina.com with the following details:

- your nickname for C&C Generals online
- nick of the cheater
- date and a kind of the game (quickmatch, 2vs2, etc.)

Who knows if this emailing of cheaters will work. We'll have to wait and see.

In unrelated news: The new CNC Generals Website and Forums have launched. Click Here to head to the homepage. I personally don't like it as much as before, but thats ok.

And now the part when I tell the community what I think about the latest outbreak of viruses, worms, and trojans:

STOP ADDING ME TO YOUR ADDRESS BOOKS!

Actually, there's a very practical reason behind this. Anyone who uses outlook and keeps an address book has about 100% chance of spreading a virus to everyone in their address book should they open an "email virus". So, if you use outlook: please remove me or even any of your friends from your address book *out of respect*. This doesn't mean that I don't want your email. It means that I don't want anymore viruses like I have been getting 150+ times a day. Today alone I have been killing 10 to 15 per hour.

*Run a firewall, auto-protect with an anti-virus, don't open attachments, and play Generals*

Realistic Modification V1.01 Complete!

Sagi, a GW staff member, has just finished his modification entitled Realistic Modification. Its basis is to balance Generals a little more by making the units and structures more realistic-hence the name. Here is a small list of changes:

* Now need double experience for a unit to go up a skill level.

* All units can detect stealth units with in the range of 200-70. (Except for tanks and Aurora)

* Some units cost more dollars now.

* All units fire farther then before, Also Defense Structures.

* Nuke Cannon, Tomahawk and Scud Launcher shoot much farther And Nuke Cannon and Scud Launcher miss more. (They are artillery)

* Heroes can now be squished.

* All Defense Structures can no longer detect hidden units, the stinger soldiers still do but for a shorter range.

* Men now bleed when get shoot.

* All sides gets a few men at the stat of the game.

* Flash Fire - Official map has been added to the official maps list.

Virus Warning

This isn't Generals-related, but I felt that I should warn everyone about this.

If you receive an email from admin@cncgeneralsworld.com, do NOT open it, especially if it contains an attachment!  Apparently, a virus has been spoofing this email account and sending out emails of the subject "your account" with a virus attached.  The CnC Generals World staff will NEVER email you from this address!  Please delete any emails you receive from this address immediately!

Thanks!

3 New Generals Movies

When I say Generals I mean the Zero Hour Generals. :)
3 new movies for General Alexander (The Female General), General Granger (Master of the skies) and General Townes (The Technological Superior General), all of these generals are of the USA.
Each one has a movie and also 3 sound files, kind of cool.
You can download these files at this page, and you can also find on this page the three different quality files of the official Generals Zero Hour Trailer.

LoadedInc Interview with Harvard

LoadedInc has posted up a new interview article with Harvard Bonin regarding Zero Hour, CnC Generals' expansion.  Here's a snip from the interview:

The original C&C Generals was criticised by some for not having much of a story so how do the GLA, China and US factions fit into the storyline
in this new game and has the plot factor been beefed up?

We've included embedded reporters that will report from the field before every mission. We also have plenty of references to events in our intro cut scenes that use the in game graphics. We think this will really help tie them all together much more than the main title.

This interview has some neat information in it, so click here to read it in full.  Thanks to Ash for the heads-up!

Also, on a side note, several CnC community websites are down at the moment.  Some of these sites include CNCSeries, CNC Unleashed, and even FrankKlepacki.com.  The DENs also seem to be loading sluggishly.  Hopefully everything will be up and running smoothly shortly!
Edit: They all seem to be back up and running now!

More Zero Hour Previews

New Zero Hour Preview has been released via Actiontrip.com

Throughout the new missions players are going to be immersed in a considerably more involving storyline than in the original game. The US won the first war and now the GLA struggles to reunite the remains of its scattered forces. This remainder of the GLA is led and controlled by a ruthless and malevolent gamma toxin general named Dr. Thrax, who simply adores using chemical weapons as a rather persuasive political argument. At the same time, a clever and resourceful Egyptian prince was to take over the scene, skillfully employing the art of camouflage; while the Chinese invade Europe and attempt to expand their territory even further. That's basically all you need to know before you set out on your first mission. By the way, the scenarios are actually relayed through news reports before each mission assignment begins.
Ain't nothin' like news reports. Take in the rest here.
There's also a small preview at Gamershell. It doesn't go into anything ground shattering but its worth a quick check. Click here to see it.

Just a reminder that these links and more to Zero Hour previews are available on our Zero Hour Previews page under the Zero Hour drop down menu above. While your here, don't foget to send us your map for our Maps Contest. You could win a t-shirt signed by the CNC Generals Development Team.

Delphi Speaks on Zero Hour

Last night on CNC Community, Delphi (the former community manager of Westwood Studios)posted an update on Zero Hour.
Hello Everyone,

Well, quick update as to what’s been happening with me over the past 6 months. Since moving out to EALA, I’ve been working on Zero Hour creating maps and Generals Challenge missions (no it’s not the secret project I was working on back at Westwood). It’s been great fun and I’ve come to realize how much passion I have for creating games (especially C&C).

With the merger of both the Westwood and EAP teams the knowledge base and creative power behind the C&C name is incredible. This will be apparent right from the start in the missions, Generals Challenge Maps, and overall visual quality of the new expansion. Generals Zero Hour will only be a taste of what’s to come for future games.

Check out the sizzle video at IGN

There you have it, short and sweet. If you have any questions or just want to chat, shoot me an e-mail at crubyor@ea.com or chris@westwood.com] (it still works) for you old school guys.

I look forward to hearing from ya!

Chris Rubyor Game Designer Electronic Arts L.A. DOB for the industry 1994  RIP Westwood Studios

One note, that sizzle video is the same one as before. It's great to hear from the Delphster again!

Generals World Updates

Well I'm back with more updates after nearly a week away from home and an adventure reformatting my computer.

The four new Zero Hour screenshots, described in Sagi's post below, have been added to our Zero Hour Screenshots Gallery.

Also, the first Zero Hour Trailer has been added to our Downloads: Videos page.  If you haven't downloaded the video yet, I suggest you do.  It is a very neat trailer.  By the way, it's 15.1 MB (zipped) and in QuickTime .mov format.

4 New Zero Hour Pictures!

Good news, more 4 cool pictures of the X-pack Zero Hour are here.

Let's see...

This one is an exclusive new picture (right from EAComMike) of the new Avenger unit that belongs to the USA aiming at the Helix of China.
Click here to see that picture.

Now here are three other new pictures from gamarshell.com (thanks to Lyx0r for that).

This one doesn't show much new.
You can see there a few motorbikes of the GLA, oh, and that big pyramid. :) It's there just for beauty.

This one shows no new units or buildings, except for that wired stone in the right.

And over here you can see the battle bus's and a new unit of the USA (top right corner).

You can see all the pictures of Zero Hour in here (except for that exclusive one above).

DeeZire online needs a new home!

Unfortunately, DeeZire's site has one month for now to be online.

You can see his post below.

Yup indeedy! DeeZire Online is urgently in need of a new home. This may be a temporary arrangement, however at this time I am taking a longer term view and a permanent new home will probably be required.

If you can help, please drop me a line ASAP and I can send the finer details, although the headlines are that this site needs;-
• high bandwidth allowance
• high webspace requirement
• allowance for the deezire.net DNS redirect to the new home
• POP3 email, PHP, MySQL and FTP support

If you can help, please get in touch. DeeZire Online has remained a consistent and reliable resource and central to the C&C editing community over the last 3 - 4 years and still exists primarily on the voluntary work done by its members although it can only be sustained for another month.

To this end, I wish to maintain the site 'as-is' and hopefully just transfer the site in its current state from its present host to a new one. Above all, the site needs a reliable host.

Serious offers only please, if you can help please get in touch!

Kodak Moment #5 from CnC Unleashed

AAK625 of CnC Unleashed has posted another Kodak Moment, this time it's about the banshee (ECM Tank) and the Microwave tank.
Here's the question of CnC unleashed and Harvard's answer:
Question:
In as much detail as you can spare, can you tell us what the Banshee and the Microwave tank do? Are there any special details you would like to mention? Can you mention any of their upgrades if there are any? Does the GLA have something similar?

Answer:
The Banshee has changed its name to "ECM Tank" which means Electronic Countermeasures" Tank. It disables vehicles with a beam. As long as it has a target, that target will be out of commission. It also has an automatic surrounding electromagnetic field that deflects a good portion of incoming missiles.

The Microwave Tank has a similar functionality. It disables structures and defenses with a beam. This tank also has a surrounding microwave effect that "cooks" infantry within its vicinity. On top of this it clears garrisoned structures.
To read more, head over to CnC unleashed and see the Kodak Moment #5 post.

Around the Community

No, I didn't suddenly catch parkinson's disease, colon cancer, lung cancer, and brain cancer; and I have not died yet as some of you may have heard. (Between you and me, I made it up, but don't tell anyone else) Anyhoot, I am back!

CnC Community- EAComMike posted this about a demo for Generals-a little late, huh. I am assuming it is about the original; however, Mike does not go into that detail. Here is what he wrote:

Hey All,

I was just informed that EA GAMES will be releasing a "Single Player" demo of Generals in mid August. For those of you who have not purchased the game, this is an opportunity to give it a play.

More info to come later!

CNC Unleashed- AAK625 has started a new feature that takes an in-depth look into the screenshots of Zero Hour, recently released by EA, called Kodak Moments. In moment #4, AAK625 asks Harvard about the two buildings with howitizers ontop of them. Here is Harvard's response:

The US Firebase comes with a big Howitzer but has a minimum range. You can put in infantry to modify its usefulness. 1 Pathfinder & Missile Defenders work well. It is not capturable and does not use power (at this time). Infantry can be cleared using a Toxin Tractor, flash bangs, etc.

Go to CNC Unleashed for the rest of the Kodak Moments.

Peace, Love, and Duct Tape

Second Wave Beta 2.1 (Public)

I don't know if you already knew about this mod, but in any case, here's a little info about it,

Second Wave is a mod produced by the CnC Matrix mod team, the mod aims to tweak and improve on Command and Conquer Generals. This version of the mod contains many new units and structures plus lots of other cool changes. The new units and structures have been added using both custom models and unused models made by EA.

Every week they announce a unit to be the unit of the week from their mod.
Here's bit info and pictures about this week unit,

The Samaritan Ambulance is a APC converted into a medical only role, the Samaritan can carry upto 3 infantry which it will automatically heal. The Samaritan is also equipped with a large repair arm which when deployed can repair other vehicles or buildings. Making the Samaritan a vital part of your armored units. But be careful the Samaritan is unarmed and a easy target

They also have a small (1:30) movie of the Harrier Jumpjet that is of course in the mod.
You can download the movie here.

They even have a Caption Contest every week to win a beta tester slot for their mod.
Click here to find out more about the Caption Contest.

See more information about this mod and/or download it.

Here's a bit from the read me,

Overt War attempts to enhance C&C: Generals game play by adding new features, implementing balance alterations, and repairing some of the bugs in the game. You be the judge of whether I succeeded or not. ;)

6 More Screenies

EA has released 6 more screenies on the Australian site that are not on any other EA site as of yet. Looks like someone's PR is not straight. Anyway go on over and check 'em out from the above link.

Note: These will not be added to our screenshot section for ZH due to technical database reasons. Thanks.

Yup, there are three cool new screenshots of Zero Hour. These new cool screenshots show some great new stuff, such as the copper, the microwave tank, a new kind of bunker and more. Have a look at them:
