if you have any links (tutorials) I could use to improve my mod (I could use some modeling ones, I already have experience with using 3ds max. The only thing I don't have is 2007 version, only 2008 lol)

7Zip (also does .rar): http://www.7-zip.org/

.rar is far superior to .zip in terms of compression.
If I remember correctly, the plugin for 3ds only works in certain versions but don't quote me.

I am using Vista (32-bit, English) and XP (SP3, don't know the bit), which version do I get for each and would changing the name of .rar file to .zip and vice versa work with the computer accepting the file change?

if it's XP, it's most likely 32bit. 32bit for each. No, changing the extension would not work.
